A Strathcona in Lindy Chain

When our newest yarn, Lindy Chain, arrived at the office, it was love at first sight. The gorgeous colors! The cool crispness of the fiber! The way it seemed to shine and glow!  I was so excited, I had to sit down for a bit. Once I recovered, I realized I had the perfect pattern for this yarn all queued up- the lovely and classic Strathcona, by Jane Richmond.

Book of the Week: New American Knits

New American Knits takes the slim, functional silhouettes from American sportswear genre and spices them up with lovely details inspired by famous American artists. I'm utterly smitten with each of the projects in this collection, starting with the absolutely gorgeous Nevelson Lace Pullover featured above. The color palette, photography and unexpectedly modern details has me reaching for my needles and contemplating another attempt at set in sleeves just so that I can have a few of these pieces in my growing knitwear collection.

Kitchen Collections – Swirly Potholder

Last year we were discussing what sort of collections we would like to see and it was unanimous - we were all about crafting for the kitchen!  And since most of us both knit & crochet, we decided we needed two collections, so we came up with Classic Kitchen Crochet and Retro Kitchen Knits. I'm particularly excited - all the patterns are by the Knit Picks staff, including me!

New Sweaters for Every Body

Spring looks like it's here, but the weather still isn't convinced. T-shirts are still relegated to storage and my sweater collection is in full rotation, I've even been double layering sweaters outside to do yard work. Cold days also means a cold house where hand washed things take a whole week to air dry (if I'm lucky) so I found myself contemplating a range of cheap polar fleece jackets to wear while I dig up bushes and mix compost into my soon-to-be dye garden in the back yard. I didn't see anything I liked, but I did see a bag of Brava Worsted in Peacock that looked pretty enticing so I gave in to my knitting needles and decided to cast on the Worsted Crewneck from Worsted Basics pattern collection.

Color Explorsion at Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat!

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat in Tacoma, WA.  Hundreds of fiber enthusiasts attended classes in knitting, spinning, weaving, as well as other great subjects. There also was a great market place that was hard to resist!  My focus that weekend was Intarsia and Fair Isle knitting. My first class was a 3-hour class, "Learning to Love Intarsia" with Sally Melville. I have been so intimidated with Intarsia.  This class definitely changed my mind! Here's the swatch I created.
