Any fan of Elizabeth Zimmermann knows about her love and respect for the humble garter stitch. In Knit One Knit All,
Elizabeth’s daughter, Meg Swansen, collected 39 patterns that were not
published in any of EZ’s other books. These were scattered among notes
and journals from 1972.
Before we announce our winners, we first would just like to say thank you to everyone who commented on the Teeny Tiny Mochimochi giveaway post! We got a total of 2491 comments, wow! I guess a lot of us really want to learn how to make those adorable little chickens! 🙂
Using a random number generator, we have selected our winners! The grand prize winner who will receive a copy of the book and a rainbow assortment of Palette is: Amber Y.
Amber’s comment was: Winning this would be a dream come true for my four year old! She has Asperger’s Syndrome and her special interest is Mochis. I’ve knitted a couple for her so far, but she’d be delighted if we had a whole book of possibilities and so would I.
The runner up winners were:

I am so excited! One of my all time favorite designers, Anna Hrachovec, has a new book out!
As many folks know, I’ve been a fan of Anna Hrachovec’s cute creatures for a long time now. And for the past year, she’s been doing a weekly post of Tiny Things on her blog….and now there’s a whole book of her Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi!

We hope you had a wonderful summer, now that the unofficial end to summer is this weekend! We had a BBQ with our sister companies to celebrate the sunshine (our last one got rained out – it’s been a very cold summer here in Oregon/Washington)
We had the 3 perfect ingredients for a great BBQ:
We had food…

Everyone at the Knit Picks office has officially caught mochimochi mania! This week, Alison interviews Anna Hrachovec, author of the books Knitting Mochimochi and Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi. Both of these books are filled with fun, brilliantly imaginative and innovative toys to knit, with the second book focusing on super-small scale toys that can be knit in only an hour or two! These teeny-tiny toys are often only an inch tall and use only a few yards of yarn. Anna chats about how she began knitting, what her creative process is for coming up with ideas, how she translates her ideas into a finished toy and why she is so drawn to knitted toys. She also runs the website and blog, mochimochiland, where you can find more of her designs and read about her weekly design challenge in which she comes up with new and clever tiny toys.

A couple of weeks ago I posted that I had finally learned how to do
2-strand color work and continental knitting… well I have my first
project done! Since I couldn’t find a pattern that I was ready to
tackle, I decided to create my own!
During Sock Summit I had a friend come with me to pick out yarn for a pair of socks. She was drawn to the colors in the Three Irish Girls booth.

of faux fair isle. (That is, stranded knitting where the yarn does the
color changing for you.) For some reason, I’ve always associated the
words ‘faux’ and ‘bas-relief’ – perhaps it’s the silent letters, perhaps
it’s just the mashed-up remnants of art school. But whatever the
reasons, that planted the seeds of a Greco-Roman inspired faux isle
pattern. Given that the medium of architecture (espectially in
antiquity) was stone, Chroma was sure to inject new life into an old
theme! And what resulted are the two Architecture Hat and Mitts sets.
Each of these two kits is a separate pattern. The first one, Columns, was inspired by columns of the Ionic Order…

Some designers aren’t able to take photos that work on our website so every 6 weeks or so, we schdedule an IDP photo shoot where we photograph the projects on one of our models. Usually, when I do the shoots, there’s about 20-30 projects that need to be photographed all in one day!
My favorites shoots are the ones we can do outside – often times (especially from October – March) we aren’t able to because it’s too cold (or in most cases rainy!). But in the milder months, it’s a lot more fun. While most of the photos you see in the catalog are shot in different locations, all the IDP shoots are done right around our office. Luckily, our offices are surrounded by nature rather than buliding so we have lots of options for backgrounds!
Like we have pretty trees…
Read more »This week is all about eBooks! First, Kelley gets a chance to talk with Erica Jackofsky, an IDP designer and author of the eBooks Sweet Treats and Musical Minds. Next up, Alison chats with Lee Meredith, who designed the Swerve Mitts available through IDP and created the eBook, Game Knitting. Kelley then catches up with Liat Gat who created a unique format where eBooks combine with videos. Liat currently has five eBooks available through Knit Picks and includes eBooks on magic loop socks, magic loop, 2-at-a-time mittens, learn to knit continental, and double knitting. Finally, Alison talks with designer, Beth Hahn who also is part of the IDP program and combines stories, watercolor illustrations and knitting patterns in her series of eBooks, The Adventures of Miss Flitt.
