Holla Knits – Crochet!

Since we've been on a crochet kick here (especially with our new yarn and new collection), it's only fitting that the newest Holla Knits release is all about crochet as well! This collection, like the Holla Knits' previous ones, contains 6 fun and fashionable patterns featuring up & coming indie designers.  Each pattern is knit in two different yarns and we are delighted that there are 4 patterns in Knit Picks yarns!

Ballerinas in Pink

Michelle Miller has been part of the IDP program from the very beginning - her Knitting Project Bag has been one of our most popular patterns! I've known Michelle for several years now and last summer we discussed doing a collection of her beautiful lace work. She came up with a gorgeous proposal and the result is the stunning Ballerinas in Pink collection! Michelle was inspired by the artist Degas's series of impressionistic paintings from the turn of the century. (see some of the artwork here). Using a similar color palette, all of Michelle's designers are stunningly beautiful and a wonderful addition to any lace lover's pattern collection.

Crochet Week: Serenity

In honor of KP Crochet’s launch, the Knit Picks staff is taking this week to focus on all our favorite, hook-tastic products and projects. I, like my fellow coworkers, love to crochet. So I'm so excited to present Serenity, our first very first crochet collection! This gorgeous book has 8 patterns by 8 different independent designers and I can't tell you how wonderful it was to work on. We wanted a variety of types of patterns included and we especially wanted to include garments, which is somewhat difficult to find for crocheters. We also wanted to highlight lighter weight yarns - everything from lace to worsted.

2 Free Natty Knits patterns!

This week we have two adorable free patterns from the wonderful Natty Knits! First up is Baby's First Football. Surrounded all my life by football fans, I think this is adorable and wish I had it when I was making a few baby gifts a while back for some football families.  Even if you're not a football fan, the size of the football is a great size for babies & small children to grasp and play with.

An Interview with the Splendiferous Angela!

Have you checked out our newest kits yet? The 2 versions of the Splendiferous Stripes Shawl kit were rather fun for us - the pattern is by our former coworker Angela Modzelewski (who we all miss very much!). But even as she's gone on to her new projects, she keeps in touch since she has such fun patterns in the IDP program!

What’s a knitter to do. . .

. . .when a good friend asks you to knit a baby garment for her good friend? Well, when I think about how much Rachael has made my transition to living in Mexico so easy, the answer is simply, “Of, course.”

Baseball and Knitting!

I make no secret of my love of baseball and it comes out full force this time of year - it's the start of the baseball season!  Well, okay, it's still only spring training, but at least I can still watch some baseball on TV again.  And even though the three teams we root for in my household ended up on the bottom of their divisions at the end of last year (that would be the Boston Red Sox, the Seattle Mariners, and the Minnesota Twins), springtime brings a new start and a new hope for the baseball season. So you can imagine how much I was looking forward to Allyson Dykhuizen's brand new collection - Vintage-Inspired Baseball Knits! Allyson and I chat quite a bit about baseball and last summer, we started talking about classic baseball as well as the difficulty of finding knitting patterns for baseball nuts like us.  So she came up with 6 new patterns inspired by those wonderful styles - perfect for modern baseball fans to wear to games!
