During the hottest months of the year, I tend to gravitate to projects that use lightweight yarns or projects that use plant fibers rather my beloved wool. Luckily, our three newest collections covers those type of projects! |

So have you seen our purty new yarn Lindy Chain? I love this yarn! Before we got it, I'd never used chainette yarn so I was little dubious, but we all had a lot of fun playing with it. |

Podcast 239: Practical/Impractical Craft is now available! We hear from fine artist Jo Hamilton. She tells about her crocheted portraits and landscapes and lets me peak at her incredible palette of yarn. We also hear from... |

We're coming to the end of the NFL season, and while I am definitely more of a baseball fan, I do enjoy a lazy Sunday watching some football. And, as of this moment, my two favorite teams are still battling to make it to the SuperBowl (that would be the Seahawks & the Patriots, mainly due to my Seattle & Boston connections). If you're reading this after January 19th, and neither team is in the SuperBowl, just picture me being very sad. Since I have a lot of friends who are also sport fans, I've gotten requests for some knitted/crochet items in team colors so I thought I'd share some of my favorites patterns |

I decided this is year to get my yarn stash under control. I have been pretty good the last year or so with using my stash for projects but then suddenly, several new skeins of yarn will find their way into my yarn closet and my bins will be overflowing again. A lot of my stash ends up being single skeins - yarn leftover from projects or a skein I just really needed to buy because it was so pretty. So when we came up with the idea of our Under 100 Collections, I was so excited - 40 patterns that all use under 100 grams of yarn! |

It's October 1st, which means it's my favorite month of the year! Every since I was young, I've loved October - cooler days, falling leaves, pumpkin everything, and especially all sorts of spooky things to celebrate Halloween! Whether it's listening to an old favorite song, watching a favorite movie or visiting our local haunted houses, every October I'm ready to celebrate. And a lot of our IDP designers have gotten into the spirit - check out some of these great patterns to get started on before the 31st shows up. First off, the marvelous Joanna Rankin has several patterns that are perfect this time of year. |

As the coordinator of our IDP collections, the biggest "problem" with my job is the fact that I am constantly surrounded by patterns I want to make RIGHT NOW. Case in point: last month we released Reclaimed (where I immediately cast on for Addison - I'm about halfway through the body) and the Wool of the Andes Collection (where I have the yarn already for Insulate). Now we've come out with probably my favorite collection to date - I want to knit everything! |

When I was a nerdy little kid (as opposed the nerdy adult I am now), I LOVED the Choose Your Own Adventures books! Remember those? You are the protagonist of the story and determine the outcome by making decisions every few pages or so. I ate these up in my elementary and Jr High years and was excited to learn that my nephew loves them too so I could pass them along to the younger generation! Well, obviously, I'm not the only one who loved these books, as one of my favorite designers Lee Meredith has a brand new eBook based on them! |

Some of my favorite days at work are photo shoot days. Every catalog cycle we log anywhere between 1-4 location shoots and 2-5 in-house studio days where we shoot tools, garments, yarn, books and all sorts of other things that crop up along the way. Each kind of shoot has this moment when everything just clicks and Amy and I can get that "perfect shot" that was exactly what we had in mind. Every once in a while we have a shot that totally exceeds our expectations and makes me actually clap my hands and gasp when I see the image on the screen. I wanted to take a minute and shine the spotlight on some of my favorite photos that we've taken recently that maybe didn't make it into the catalog or are Independent Designer's patterns that I'm especially proud of. Enjoy! |

The wonderful Kalurah Hudson has been a long time IDP designer as well as a contributor to our First Light collection and was a huge help in getting KP Crochet started. She visited us for a couple of days and filmed so many crochet tutorials and was an early tester of our new yarn Curio. We asked her if she would be interested in sharing a crochet story for the blog and what we received was such a personal, beautiful story. Enjoy. In celebration of the release of Knit Picks FIRST Crochet thread "Curio", I wanted to share with you my own journey into the discovery of Crochet. |
