I've been mostly knitting and crocheting as of late, so the start of Le Tour de Fleece was a great opportunity to pull out my wheel and get back into my peaceful Zen square of handspinning. Spinning yarn seems to occupy a different part of my brain than other fiber crafts; I find it especially calming when I have a really hectic week. First, I spun some BFL (Bluefaced Leicester) that I got at Andersen Fiber Works a couple of weeks ago. The indie dyer is Dicentra Designs, and I just love their bright, clear colors. I predrafted this fiber without splitting it up in order to preserve the super-long color repeats, and then I chain plied it to make a bouncy 3-ply yarn. When I knit this one up, I should see stripes that transition gently from shade to shade. |

Remember a couple of months ago when I was struggling with Second Sock Syndrome. After knitting with the Magic Loop Method several times, I've realized that I prefer knitting with DPNs. It's just a matter of personal preference. We have a selection of Magic Loop/DPN sock knitters in the building. We've all tried any new method that has come around and it's been fun to watch who ends up using what needles for the sock knitting. |

This is the photo from Mason Dixon Knitting: Outside The Lines. You can see how the pattern caught my attention. The shawl is actually very easy to knit and it worked up relatively quickly. I couldn't have cut it much closer. I finished the shawl one week before Bob's nephew's wedding. Thank goodness lace shawls dry quickly. I was so happy with the results. One of those times when you have wanted to make something for ages and it turns out even better than expected. |

What could be better than having an inspirational book arrive in the office at the same time as a sampling of new yarn? A Knitter's Home Companion by Michelle Edwards is an absorbing combination of stories, patterns and recipes. Her trio of washcloths just begged to be knit with our new Dishie cotton yarn. |

Thank you to everyone who contributed! To read about who won, click here: We have a name AND an announcement! Late last week, a package arrived at our office with a beautiful pair of socks and the most adorable letter I've read in a long time. The letter was from 86 year young Frances FIsher from North Carolina and it read... |

I don't know about all of you, but our house is getting distinctly chilly. Flop-on-the-couch time is now preceeded by pick-out-favorite-cuddly-blanket time (which is sometimes interrupted by roll-dog-and-multiple-cats-off-of-favorite-blanket time). I just finished a new throw blanket using a free pattern called "Missoni Inspired Chevron Blanket" (Ravelry link). Missoni is an Italian fashion house that is generally known for bold colors and geometric patterns, and this blanket pattern captures the Missoni flavor by interspersing black and white zig zag lines with the crazy off-kilter rainbow colors. |

I know, I know...Another pair of fingerless mittens? But these are different, I swear. Unlike the other 5 pairs of fingerless mitts I've knit in the past year, these are for *me*. |

As I've stated before, toys are one of my favorite things to knit. So I was excited to learn to crochet to make the very cute crochet amigurumi I see everywhere! And I went a little crazy - they are so quick! My desk already has quite a collection of toys, (you can see some of them in Kerin's post about Carl) but these guys made a nice addition! |

It's beginning to feel like fall here in the Pasific Northwest! I apologize to those who are in the middle of the heatwave and are now throwing things at the monitor (my partner is currently in Boston and pretty much hates the fact that I told him how cool it is out here at the moment). BUT! Fall is my favorite time of year - I love the cool crisp evenings and especially digging out my woolies! So the last couple of nights I've got to wear my sweaters & hats for the first time in months. And I finished a new sweater just in time! This is the Salem Hooded Jacket from New England Knits. |

I finished spinning all 500g of the Wool of the Andes roving that I dyed! I did end up plying the lighter blue bobbins (the top two in the photo above) with the darker purple-and-blue bobbins so that the color would even out among the skeins. It worked for the most part, and I ended up with 5 skeins that varied only slightly - one is more purple, one more dark blue, etc. |
