Oversized knit and crochet projects are showing up everywhere lately – huge arm-knitted blankets, chunky ottomans, garter stitch pillows, you name it. I absolutely love the dramatic impact of these home décor accessories, but I absolutely do not love the usual price tag associated with extra-heavy supersized projects. I have also tried to make some of the jumbo-gauge projects I’ve seen on Ravelry using multiple strands of worsted weight or bulky weight yarn, but the look isn’t quite the same as those gorgeous pictures I see on Pinterest. |

Podcast 256 has something for everybody! We hear from Knit Picks' own Alison Backus about our new collection, "Knits for Everybody", with basic patterns you'll go back to again and again. The sweater pattern from this book is designed by Katy Banks, who talks on this podcast about her design process, and left handed knitting a whole different way. We'll also talk to Vera Brosgol, author and illustrator of the new children's picture book, "Leave Me Alone", (pictured above) about drawing, knitting, and being left alone to do it all. 3 easy ways to listen... |

You may have noticed that our catalog got little makeover a few months ago. As soon as we started planning the new look, we realized that having a complementary book of all of our current yarns would be a great idea, since they're no longer included in the catalog. So as our graphic designer, I was in charge of putting it together. With hundreds of items, it was a lot of information to wrangle into a beautiful, cohesive package. I wanted to be sure that it was easy to use and that all of the photos were color-corrected so they'd be as accurate as possible for those consulting the yarn guide for color reference. I know how important that is for any knitter or crocheter, especially for projects with multiple colors, like Fair Isle. In fact, Knit Picks staff has used the yarn guide ourselves in several collection planning meetings for that very reason. |

Do you ever find yourself wanting more information about a Knit Picks product? We do product reviews and demonstrations for many of the items we carry, and they're available for you on our site, anytime you need them. Whether it's a new yarn, a tool, or a bag, it's sometimes fun to know as much as you can about something before you order it. I like to watch the yarn reviews because there's lots of suggestions as to what certain yarns are good for, as well as what they're not! I don't always follow the rules, but I've learned a lot about fiber blends, and how some are good for items like socks, for instance, while others not so much. |

New yarn launch days are my favorite: it's when we get to finally share all of the wonderfully new yarn love that we've been secretly swooning over for the past few months. And this yarn is no exception, Paragon is a sport weight yarn and it's the holy trinity of yarn for me - it has a little bit of everything that I love in a yarn. First - it's got 50% Mmmmerino, which adds that distinctive bounce and squish that I can't get enough of in a yarn. Secondly - there's 25% Baby Alpaca, which adds a softness and an extra dose of warmth. And the last 25% of Paragon is made up of luxurious silk, which is what adds that incredible sheen. |
