Chroma Hats

Chroma has been out for about 2 weeks now - have you tried it yet?  I am honestly so in love with it.  I can't stop knitting with it!  First I tried the fingering weight for my Fishy Mitts that I already wrote about.  But when I finished, I wanted to keep playing with it!  Hats are one of my favorite things to knit (sadly, no one I know wears hats...so now I have a lot of them) so I decided to try out some different hat patterns with Chroma Worsted. First - I decided to do a Turn A Square by Jared Flood.  I've actually never tried this pattern before, though I have done a few by Jared Flood.  Alison has an addiction to this pattern so it seemed like a perfect time to try it out.

Fun with Chroma

Knitting the Autumn Sun shawl  in Chroma worsted was completely addicting. The whole shawl is knit in garter stitch with simple increases on each end to create the triangle shape as you knit (the pattern is available on Ravelry as a free download). With no fancy stitch patterns to memorize or charts to check and re-check, I sat back and watched the colors in the Mix Tape colorway transition from yellow to green to pink to brown.

Rainbow Fishies!

Since my Beer Pint Mitts, I've been on a SpillyJane pattern kick.  I made these for my niece for Christmas:  Made in Stroll Tonal Blue Violet and a bunch of scraps But honestly, they took me awhile - mainly because once I finished with the bodies I had something like a billion ends to weave in. So I threw them in a corner until I was ready to face them.  I mean I love how cute the colorwork mittens turn out but...the ends... Enter Chroma. We got our early shipment in and all of us were instantly in love - I had so many ideas of things I want to make!  But I ended up deciding on another SpillyJane pattern...and this went much quicker   Rainbow Fishies!

A bit of summer at Christmas

I know it's a bit strange to think about summer knitting just as winter has begun. But, when I saw the photo samples of these Lantern Moon knitting bags, all I could think was, "Yes! Bags I can use in the summer!" Have you every noticed that summer purses tend to be small? Or, a bit gaudy? Or, made out of fabric with no support underneath so everything sags into the middle? You can begin to understand why I love these Lauren bags. The neutral colors mean that I can keep a knitting project in one and not have to worry about moving it to another bag that goes with my outfit. The size is large enough for a decently sized project but small enough to look "light" for summer. I can fold it up to fit in a suitcase for trips. The lining makes these "safe" woven bags because my needles won't poke out of the sides. The sturdy base means that the bag will stand up nicely on the ground while I eat outside at a restaurant, look at art during our First Thursday art walk or chat with a friend in the park. You may be holding a mug of hot chocolate in your hands right now, but a Lauren Bag will fill your mind with dreams of summer knitting.

Sasquatch sighting!

I just got back from a camping trip. I went through the Redwoods and all the way down the California coastline to Big Sur. I saw elk, otters, seals, and even jellyfish, but it figures I wouldn't spot the most legendary creature of all, the Sasquatch, until I was back in my own backyard.
