I’ve been finishing up a lot of stash busting projects!
I finished my Pretty Polly by Erica Jackofsky.
I was pretty proud of this one, especially since it’s the first
sweater I’ve finished on such a small gauge (size 3 needles!).

Kerin is the in-house pattern designer for Knit Picks and is
one of the most talented knitters our company has ever had the
opportunity to work with. We thought that you all should get a chance to get to know Kerin the way
that we do, so how better than with an interview! I hope you enjoy
getting to know our funny (and all-around-awesome) Kerin as much as I did.
As
many of our blog friends know, you are the pattern designer for Knit
Picks. This job requires that you know pretty much everything there is
to know about knitting. When and how did you learn to knit?
Thanks for all the great comments about Vonnie and the IDP program! We’re all very excited!
We had 1221 comments at the end of the contest and our favorite random number generarator came up with:
#789 – Amanda
(whose comment read: Looks like a pattern that would fit me well.)

I am blown away by how many preemie hats you guys knit over one weekend, the grand total turned out to be 86 hats! Kate made this cool slide show of all your photos:
You impressed the folks at The Preemie Project too, they sent me this message, “I was just looking through all of the posts. How cool! We really appreciate it!”.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to knit 1, or 6, or 11, or 13 hats for a good cause this weekend. Yep, I said 13. Ruthmci and Knit4Many each knit 13 hats before 9am yesterday. We had a tie. We thought about coming up with a tie breaker, like a Battle Royale for knitters, but in the end we’ve just decided to give prizes to both of them.
They will each get a copy of Knitting in the Sun, a needle set, and 11 balls of cotton …
So a confession – I’ve never used lace yarn in my 9 years of knitting. I bought one skein a couple of years ago, but never used it – it just sits prettily on my shelf. I guess I’m scared it too thin for me & I’ll break it immediately – even though I will happily knit socks in light fingering weight yarn on size 0 needles!
But I finally broke down & bought some because I am determine to overcome my fear of it. Plus I’m in love with Barb Wire and feel I must have it for my next sweater project! (interview with the designer tomorrow!)
So I bought some pretty Gloss Lace in the new Peapod color
Since our Gloss line is my favorite yarn, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start there.
Then I love Alison’s Citron so much that I needed to do that too …

What’s On My Needles
Tina helped me rearrange the furniture in my living room so that I could have a cozy and inviting fiber corner to spin and knit in. And I’m taking my big green Socks for Soldiers socks with me to Boston this weekend – I hope to make a lot of progress on them!

We love our sock blanks!! And, after several months of secretive planning and knitting, Tina and I are thrilled to be able to share a few of our experiences as we worked out the details and then enjoyed our own dyeing and knitting pleasures.

What’s On My Needles: Beyond The Pale – The Music Plays Me …
Most of you know me as the Independent Designer Partnership
Coordinator (quite the mouthful of a title isn’t it?) but another
wonderful part of my job is working with local charities. While most
of our yarn stock is in Ohio, we do end up with quite a bit here in
Vancouver – leftovers from projects or photoshoots mostly. Lots of
people ask what we do with all of it – and no, we don’t take it all
home with us. We actually donate all of our discontinued yarns &
colors it to a couple of lovely local places. One of those places is Friends Of The Children,
a nonprofit group in Portland that provides the most at-risk children
with intensive and long-term mentors. We’ve worked with them in the
past and they have a group called “Crafty Friends” that loves playing
with our yarn & teaching children (and mentors!) to knit or crochet.
Since we are discontinuing a bunch of colors right now to make room
for our fall stock, I went down to the small warehouse we have here to
load up a box for our Friends. That box turned into two..
