Designer Interviews for New Summer Shawl Kits

Summer seems to have gotten a late start this year, but it looks like the sunshine has come just in time for all of the wonderful new shawl kits! And of course, Kerin kindly shared her inspiration for the colors and designs behind these shawls – some of which come from the most unlikely of places! But it just goes to show that inspiration is around us everywhere.

TNNA – the designers!

One of the best things about TNNA for me was meeting all the wonderful designers I work with all the time – both in the IDP program as well as on other projects.  I tried not to be all fangirly with designers I’ve loved even before I started working here but it was hard not to be starstruck.

First up (once I remembered to start taking pictures) was one of the original IDP designers – David Castillo.

TNNA: Interview with Doris Chan

One of the best parts of TNNA was being around so many crafty people
and sharing in this amazing community of smart, talented knitters and
crochets. While we were there, we were able enough to meet so many of
the designers involved with the Independant Design Program. And lucky
for us, we got the opportunity to meet Doris Chan, author of Crochet Lace Innovations! Not only is Doris a talented crochet designer, but she is also one of the contributors to the pattern, Pam’s Comfort Cables, which is available through the IDP program.

Happy tandem knitting continues…

Thank you again to everyone who planted the tandem idea in my head! I love it!
There were a couple of questions in my last post so I thought I would take care of them now.
First, Panther2000 Definitely use fingering weight yarn for your first try on socks. Don’t be too ambitious. Choose a nice plain sock pattern or book like Getting Started Knitting Socks by Ann Budd.
Second, Judy My bad! I forgot to give you the link to the Fiesta Feet. I downloaded the pattern from Ravelry.
Third, Mary G. Thank you for the timely encouragement! I’m glad to hear that your socks have stood up so well.
That’s it for today! I’m off to knit on my socks a bit more!

TNNA trip!

Last weekend, several of us from the office flew out to Ohio to go to the The National NeedleArts Association
(TNNA) Market.  If you are not familiar with TNNA, this is an
industry-only event for wholesale vendors to show off their wares.  Alison & Angela attended
the one in Long Beach, CA back in January and had a great response, so
for the market in Columbus OH, we sent out more people and had a bigger
booth!

Remember, use hints from this picture to guess where Kerin will be tomorrow.  Look closely because this one’s a little tough.  If you’re the first person to guess correctly, you’ll win a $5 gift card! Your comments must be posted before 8AM PST tomorrow in order for them to count.
*Please note, you must have a US or Canadian address to win.

Last stop: Scotland!

Did you catch the Fair Isle reference in yesterday’s post?  In case you don’t understand what Fair Isle has to do with Scotland, here’s a little history for you. Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours. It is named after Fair Isle, a tiny island in the north of Scotland, that forms part of the Shetland islands.  This is the last stop on Kerin’s journey around the world.  If you were playing along throughout the week, we thank you very much!  If you guessed the right answers and you were the first to do it, expect an email soon!

For now, Kerin is on her way home.  What a fun vacation she has had!
The last photo that we snapped from her journey was of her arriving in Portland at the airport!  She looks happy to be home.  A …
