Have you tried our gorgeous new yarn, the 100% silk laceweight Luminance? If you're like me, you had to buy a skein because it's SHINY and PRETTY (especially the silvery-blue Reflection, on the bottom far left). But once you get it, what to do with it? Well, we have beautiful new free pattern created just for Luminance - the Papillion Choker and Wristlets by Joyce Fassbender! |

Back in the day, before Photoshop was my artistic tool of choice, I loved to paint. Oil, acrylic, watercolor and charcoal delightfully muddied up my bedroom. These days, my home is cluttered with a different method of creative expression: yarn dyeing! I started with a just a few colors in Greener Shades Dye, several skeins of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash Bare yarn and this trusty guide: Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece. I’m not gonna lie; I was intimidated by the whole process. I felt the ‘blank canvas’ paralysis of days gone by returning. However, after I took the plunge (or rather, my first skein took the plunge), the fear vanished and the fun began! |

For me, summer is about trying new things. I like new stitch patterns and new yarns, but most of all I like new crafts in general. In the past, I've devoted summers to needle felting or dyeing. This summer, I'm learning to weave! I have a small rigid heddle loom and I can't wait to make scarves and placemats and pillowcases for everyone I know. In my dreams, my Christmas list will be complete by the time the pumpkins are ripe. If you're interested in learning to weave, we have a new tutorial available where Hannah weaves a gorgeous pillowcase out of Hawthorne Fingering Yarn! Learn how to warp, weave, and finish your project in this great video: |

Did you craft in public this past weekend? We held a lovely get together in Colonel Summers Park in Portland, OR. There was free yarn and books, prize baskets, lots of chatting and crafting, and unfortunately, a good amount of rain. Nevermind! We headed under the park's picnic shelter and carried on. No, those aren't our wet socks on the line, but samples from Toasty Toes, all in a row! |

Lace is really hard for me. I've tried it a few times and had no good results. I'm resolving to try again, however, and in doing so, I'm going to start with the basics. As much as I would love to try the patterns in Joyful Lace, and go forth with our new 100% silk yarn, Luminance, I will start small. So I'm going to cast on with our cotton yarn Dishie, and try to knit a Lacy Spa Cloth. With a super repeatable pattern that I can memorize really quickly, I think this will be a fast project where I can repeat my yarn overs and get used to how things look on the needles, before I progress to larger patterns. The texture reminds me of those string market bags you see at the Farmer's Market all summer long. Maybe I'll try my hand at one of those, next!
