World Wide Knit In Public Day

Saturday, June 18 2016 Better living through stitching together. Did you know that this Saturday is World Wide Knit In Public Day? This event started in 2005 as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company. From founder Danielle Landes: "Knitting is such a solitary act that it's easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits. This is a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for people like you. Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor!"

New! Complete Yarn Guide 2016

You may have noticed that our catalog got little makeover a few months ago. As soon as we started planning the new look, we realized that having a complementary book of all of our current yarns would be a great idea, since they're no longer included in the catalog. So as our graphic designer, I was in charge of putting it together. With hundreds of items, it was a lot of information to wrangle into a beautiful, cohesive package. I wanted to be sure that it was easy to use and that all of the photos were color-corrected so they'd be as accurate as possible for those consulting the yarn guide for color reference. I know how important that is for any knitter or crocheter, especially for projects with multiple colors, like Fair Isle. In fact, Knit Picks staff has used the yarn guide ourselves in several collection planning meetings for that very reason.

Now that our sweaters have been packed away and we're enjoying the sunshine, it's time to pull out your summer knitting projects. Here are a few fabulous projects I'm hoping to cast on soon. Summer Knitting Projects: Oyster Bay Tank I just love this Oyster Bay tank top! It's knit in our fabulous lightweight linen Lindy Chain, which gives it an amazing drape and sheen. The simple diamond pattern along the sides make the perfect accent to this summer top. Designed by Kathryn Folkerth.

Dispatches from The Beginners

With some recent staff changes here at Knit Picks, we have a number of employees who are new to knitting.  It's fun to check in with them to see how they're progressing. I love to hear about their trials, and how they're completing projects and gaining confidence along the way. You might remember Alexis from the podcast she did a while back on being a newbie. She's been working on a scarf from our Learn to Knit Club Kit, and look how well she's doing! Here are the dispatches from the Knit Picks Beginner Knitters, in their own words.

Staff Projects – Bunny Knits!

Spring is almost over - can you believe it? Only about a month to go until summer, and I don't know if I'm ready quite yet. The weather in the Northwest has been everything from 50 to 90 degrees already, giving us a sample of what looks to be the hot summer ahead. So to keep spring around for just a bit longer (at least in my mind, and on my needles) I made some sweater for my daughters. Want to see?
