I always try to keep a small project on my hooks or needles as a sort of crafty "palate cleanser" while I'm working on intense, long-term projects. I've noticed that it helps to keep me motivated and excited about those big pieces if I can take a mini break and finish something else quickly. My newest favorite mini knit is Purl Soho's free Garter Flap Hat (teeny tiny baby sized). |

We have a brand new yarn out today! The Big Cozy (the name always makes me think of one of my favorite movies, The Big Sleep) is a super bulky alpaca/wool blend that is SO SOFT. I haven't actually worked with super bulky yarns in years so I figured I should play around with it. I grabbed the largest needles I own (size 13) and a skein of both Marine Heather and Finnley Heather and decided to make a hat! |

I LOVE taking two radically different Chroma colors, pairing them up and then working stripes until both skeins run out. I especially like how Chroma looks in a Granny crochet stitch, each little 3dc cluster is a slightly different color from the last and the gradual fade between colors is wonderfully mesmerizing. |

So have you seen our new Chroma yarn colors? We've had the samples in the office for several months and we've been dying to show them to you! I think these are my favorite batch of colors we've put out - both the neutrals and the super cheery brights. |

During the book sale, I reviewed the book Amigurumi at Home by Ana Paula Rimoli. I toiled over which pattern I would crochet - the teacup rug, the tooth pillow, the dog or cat footwarmers? In the end, the pattern I chose wasn't any of the projects I highlighted in that post. I made a cloud pillow, and I named him Junior. Made in all single crochet, he was the fastest and most fun project I've made in quite some time. |

When our newest yarn, Lindy Chain, arrived at the office, it was love at first sight. The gorgeous colors! The cool crispness of the fiber! The way it seemed to shine and glow! I was so excited, I had to sit down for a bit. Once I recovered, I realized I had the perfect pattern for this yarn all queued up- the lovely and classic Strathcona, by Jane Richmond. |

Projects have been flying off my needles lately! Between puttering in the garden and blowing through stacks of library books I've been clickty-clacking my needles together on some light weight projects, perfect for sunnier days. First up on my summer list was Mari Chiba's Chevron Lace Tank pattern from the In Bloom collection. |

I have no less than 5 friends having babies by the end of 2014: my pediatrician, my daughter's best friend's mom, my sister...one friend is even having twins! I have to knit every new baby I know something, too. I consider it a good luck charm. With two babes of my own, time is short so I'm always in need of a go-to baby knit. |

Dandelion Shine Sport never looked so good! Shine's soft cotton blend combined with the bumpy texture of this stitch results in the perfect washcloth. There are no decreases or increases involved either! Each "bump" is formed by creating a small chain of knits in a single stitch and then the chain is popped to the front of the project on the next row. It's such a fun stitch to work with! Plus there's a simple four row repeat that's easy to memorize and quick to knit. |
