TNNA wrap up

Angela and I went to the TNNA winter show in Long Beach, CA last week. It was a little different for us than other shows we've attended - this time, instead of just walking the floor as a retailer, we were exhibiting as wholesalers! We've just started selling our needles to local yarn stores, and it's possible that they're already at a shop near you. Alisha made this initial list of LYSs that carry Knit Picks needles, and we're adding new stores faster than we can udpate the list!

Winners – Knitting Noro Book AND Chroma Giveaway!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this giveaway!  We got some really great comments and it was fun reading what all of you would do with the book and yarn if you won.  Sadly, we were only able to pick two people.  To select our winners, we used a random number generator that chose our winners based on the number of their comment.   Our winners: #9 - Jessica B. Yay! Love this, because I was just eyeballing that Chroma in the catalog :) I would definitely make a cowl. Oh, how pretty! #1747 - Ann S. Definitely going to do a striped scarf! Also thinking about the Jindabyne a-Line sweater from Swing Swagger Drape by Jane Slicer-Smith. Ooh, ooh, choose me! We have emailed Jessica and Ann this morning and once they let us know which color and weight of Chroma they would like, we will be shipping out their prizes.  Thanks again everyone, as always, we love to hear your feedback! -Alisha

Joining the Chroma craze!

Alright, Stacey has gotten a jump-start on me with her Turn a Square hat and her Ida's Kitchen hat made from our new Chroma yarn. But, I am quite pleased with my choice of project - Lace Ribbon Scarf by Veronik Avery using the New England colorway in fingering weight. I love how the the undulation of the fabric accents the long transitions of color. The only issue is that I only have one ball from what was left from our office stash. But, since there is a definite right and wrong side to this scarf, I think I'l be perfectly happy just having it drape around my neck. It's also knitting up quickly! I have found that following the chart was much easier than using the written instructions.

Knitters want their gifts to be used

This is a very old, free pattern - which is exactly my point. I still have the original! My intention was to make a long, narrow, easy to knit item that took advantage of the lightweight warmth of Suri Dream. I tell people that it is my Airplane Blanket. I deliberatly shaped it to fit an airplane seat. I can wrap one end around my feet and pull to rest all the way up over my shoulders. Once we arrive at our destination, I can use it as an evening shawl. If we are eating outside on a really chilly night (it happens frequently in Hawaii), I curl up on my chair and wrap the whole thing around me like a poncho. Snugly warm! I also use it in my hotel room as a nap blankie and I even lay it over the thin blanket on the bed for extra comfort while I sleep. When knitters give handknit gifts, they want them to be used! Sometimes the item is so cherished that it never gets out of its cedar cocoon.  Sometimes, the gift doesn't quite fit the recipient's lifestly despite our best intentions. My blankie/shawl has had a good life. When I'm not dragging it with me on trips, I use it as a throw when I'm reading or knitting. When I can get it away from Xena. So, here is my question. What have you knit that has been well-used? Was it for you or did you give it away as a gift? How did you figure out what the recipient would wear or use a lot?

Inspiration from J. Peterman

A few years ago I was absolutely devastated when the J. Peterman Company stopped sending out their catalogs. I had been collecting them for years and even made an occassional purchase of something special. When I received a new catalog a couple of years ago I was absolutely thrilled! The same romantic stories accompanied each item. I vowed that I would treat myself to a couple more treasures each year to help keep those catalogs coming to me. They also send out e-mails. The last one reminded me that I also find a lot of knitting inspiration in the J. Peterman catalogs. There has got to be a way to design a knit version of these Scalloped Gloves. Maybe a narrow band of ribbing at the wrist and then a sideways border like on a lace shawl. Or, even something as simple as a shale lace pattern?

Cyber Monday Sale Update #2

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I just wanted to let you all know that our IT team was working on the website last night making some changes and updates to get it to run faster.  There was a brief period last night when only 75 colors were showing. Now, all 450+ sale colors are back on the sale yarn page and they're all 25-35% off until 11:59pm PST tonight.  The site should be running much faster today.  We're very sorry about the slow load times yesterday; we know that must have been really frustrating.  Thanks again for being so patient and supportive! Have a great day! -Alisha
