By now you know how I feel about Cathy Carron’s book, Cowlgirls. But, “Don’t leave!” I’m using Cowlgirls as a seque to a topic I think you will find very helpful.
Cowlgirls is appealing to me because of the variety of designs, the practicality of the “cowls” and how quickly each project knits up.
Now, think about the challenges many of us face when we begin to knit gifts for Christmas. What to make for whom? Something that will actually be worn. And, a definite lack of time! The secret to making a dent in your knitting list, or even finishing it, is to choose portable and easy projects.
I began to realize that Cathy’s book would be the perfect source for my gift knitting! Being in a building full of knitters, I began to wonder what books other holiday knitters were using. …
This is my first project published in a magazine! It is Love of Knitting – Fall 2010. I have always loved how Suri Dream knits up into a light, airy, surprisingly warm throw or wrap.

3 easy ways to listen…
I know Halloween was only yesterday, but I’ve been seeing Christmas
decorations in the shops for months and it’s got me thinking of candy
canes and gingerbread men. Here’s a cute project I made with our Snow Days kit and some Winter Fun fabric from our sister company, Connecting Threads, that you might want to make this month so that you’ll be ready to countdown to Christmas on December 1st!

I hate being cold. I hate seeing my loved ones get cold. I guess
this might be why I love knitting so much! When I started dreaming up a
design for a hat and convertible mitts to function as the ultimate warm
accesories, I decided to zero in on the parts of me that get coldest,
fastest, when I am out and about in the winter months: my ears, and my
fingers. Using that a a starting point, I worked up a design for a
dapper, plaid hat and mitts that would harness the intese softmness and
warmth of Suri Dream and concentrate it exactly where it will be needed: lining the earflaps and mitten tops of our Into The Woods hat and mitts!
When I think of taking a Snow Day this winter, I imagine myself cozied up on the couch, watching fireplace videos, and knitting happily on all of the tiny treasures in our new Snow Day Ornament pattern!
You may have thought I was kidding when I showed you my first treasure from Cowl Girls by Cathy Carron.
But, clearly, I could not resist! I love the hand-painted colors in Wool of the Andes Bulky – Beach Front.
This one has twelve more inches of K2, P2 ribbing. Just the ticket for Chinese dinner out with friends tonight. Pass the veggie Moo Shu!

The first step to fixing a knitting mistake is preventing a knitting mistake in the first place. This first video shows you how to count stitches and rows in stockinette, reverse stockinette, and garter stitch fabric. That way, if you set your knitting down, or lose your place, you can just count your stitches and rows to figure out where you were in the pattern.
