Spring looks like it’s here, but the weather still isn’t convinced. T-shirts are still relegated to storage and my sweater collection is in full rotation, I’ve even been double layering sweaters outside to do yard work. Cold days also means a cold house where hand washed things take a whole week to air dry (if I’m lucky) so I found myself contemplating a range of cheap polar fleece jackets to wear while I dig up bushes and mix compost into my soon-to-be dye garden in the back yard. I didn’t see anything I liked, but I did see a bag of Brava Worsted in Peacock that looked pretty enticing so I gave in to my knitting needles and decided to cast on the Worsted Crewneck from Worsted Basics pattern collection.

Although it may seem simple, the beauty of a knitted sock lies within it’s practicality (both to make and to wear) as well as in it’s ability to be a blank canvas. Kelley walks you through all of the steps of working a top-down sock, along with a plethora of handy tips and tricks along the way. As Kelley pauses to reflect on the clever construction of socks, both new and experienced knitters are sure to be inspired to cast on a pair of socks right away.
Finally, Kelley catches you up with what she has on her needles at the moment. This week, the goal is all about simplicity and portability as Kelley reports from a Spanish language immersion retreat in La Paz, Mexico!

Hundreds of fiber enthusiasts attended classes in knitting, spinning, weaving, as well as other great subjects. There also was a great market place that was hard to resist! My focus that weekend was Intarsia and Fair Isle knitting.
My first class was a 3-hour class, “Learning to Love Intarsia” with Sally Melville. I have been so intimidated with Intarsia. This class definitely changed my mind! Here’s the swatch I created.

It’s not often that I really dig making dishcloths. It’s something I do to replace the previous victim of some kitchen disaster knowing as I’m knitting that this new creation is doomed to a slow, cheese-encrusted death over the next few months until it’s replaced. That being said, the super simple stitch pattern that I came up with for the Reversible Pips Dishcloth is so satisfying and easy to memorize that I just want to sit down and make a huge pile of them over one weekend for FUN!
It was so fun seeing all the creative yarn glamour shots Knit Picks fans came up with for this contest! Below are the three winners. Thanks to all who participated!
