In addition to the great tutorials and videos we have available at Knit Picks, we have also been working hard on expanding our videos to include a behind the scenes look at new kits! If you have ever wondered about the inspiration behind the projects or simply want to hear more about the design process that goes into the kits, you really have to check out the Designer Interview videos! After all of the designing, editing, sample knitting and re-editing is done and the kits are ready to make their debut, I ask our talented designer Kerin to give everyone an inside look into each kit. These designer videos are really great for finding out which specific techniques, construction and design elements are used as well as learning about any tips or tricks Kerin might have to make your project a success. I find it endlessly fascinating to hear about the point of inspiration that started each project alongside the final piece. |

In addition to our ever growing list of tutorials available through Knit Picks, did you know we also have a YouTube channel with even more online classes, how-to videos and tutorials? We have over 200 videos that include not only instructional material, but also many designer interviews and so much more. One of the best things about our Knit Picks YouTube channel are all of the classes that walk you through every step of the way. We have classes on how to knit - the basics, how to knit lace, how to knit a sweater, how to spin yarn using a drop spindle as well as Kelley's Sock Class and Kelley's Mitten Class. And to make things even easier for you, we now have a dedicated section for all of these classes. |

Harmony needles are no different than a fine piece of furniture. They need a bit of oil to keep them nourished and smooth. Funny thing, my hands need the same thing. |

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! Alisha posted last week to let you know we were going to be having our first ever Cyber Monday sale today. The sale is on! Over 400+ colors of yarn are 25-35% off. We did have some technical issues this morning and not all the yarns were showing correctly in this sale category. That has been resolved, and we’re really sorry for any confusion or inconvenience that caused. We’re also sorry to say our web site is extremely slow today. The IT department has been scrambling to get it fixed, but our bandwidth is pretty maxed out so there’s not much we can do to resolve it. To make it up to you and make sure everyone gets a chance to shop the sale, we’re extending the sale until 11:59PM tomorrow (Tuesday, 11/30) to give you more time. Thank you for being ... |

I realize that I shouldn't be shocked any longer at just how big the IDP program has gotten over the past 15 months but I just got some big news - this past weekend we hit 100,000 pattern sales! Wow! That is amazing - and best of all, all of those sales went directly to the fantastic group of designers we have in the program so far. As of last week, we have over 350 IDP designers - we generally add about 20 new designers a month in fact! Have you checked out some of the new patterns recently? There's been so much exciting new stuff coming out - my queue grows larger & larger every week! Here are some of my favorite new designers & patterns: |

As many of you already know, several of Knit Picks' yarns and needles were nominated for Best-Of in the 2011 Reader's Choice Awards on about.com. To become a finalist for the awards, about.com's staff must sift through hundreds of different nominations and pick the top five for each of the five categories. We are elated to say that Knit Picks was selected as a finalist in four out of the five categories, including: Best Wool Yarn (Wool of the Andes); Best Cotton Yarn (double nomination - Shine and Simply Cotton); Best Sock Yarn (Stroll); and finally, Best Knitting Needles (double nomination - Harmony and Options Interchangeables). As if that weren't exciting enough, we are delighted to say that we took home the 1st place spot for the Best Knitting Needles category with our Harmony wood needles! (insert happy dance) If you would like to read about the awards, click here: Reader's Choice Awards - Knitting. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us, we really appreciate your support! |

I seem to have returned to knitting socks with DPNs. I still use the Magic Loop Method for certain sock designs. What I do still appreciate with the Magic Loop Method is being able to knit two socks at the same time so there is no Second Sock Syndrome... |

This contest is now closed. Thank you so much to everyone who participated! To find out who won, click here. That's right, folks...we have another book contest! And if you have never done entrelac knitting, you should really give it a try! It can look intimidating at first, but you will be a pro in no time with Rosemary Drysdale’s book, Entrelac: The Essential Guide to Interlace Knittng. It can be a fun and rewarding technique that not only looks complicated and fancy, but is so versatile at the same time. The book begins with Rosemary leading you through every step of the way in understanding the concepts and techniques used for entrelac knitting. Using modular triangles and squares, you can create really stunning and interesting pieces using cables, lace or colorwork. One of my favorite things about this book is the entrelac stitch dictionary that highlights over 60 different stitch patterns! Once you understand the concepts behind entrelac knitting, this stitch dictionary makes a wonderful resource that allows you to create your very own designs with confidence. |

Let me show it to you... Can you believe how beautiful it is? Aloft is a blend of 75% mohair and 25% silk and it will leave you wanting to knit with it over and over again. The silk adds a radiant core that shimmers and shines through the soft halo of mohair, all the while adding a beautiful drape and texture to any project. Our team fell head-over-heals in love with the line the moment we first saw the sample. The Knit Picks Director - Alison - couldn't keep us out of her office because we all wanted to keep touching it! It's just so yummy! |
