Winter really is an amazing season. Maybe not as much here in the Pacific Northwest (where the seasons are more like "Rain" and "Bridge repair"), but memories of winters in the mid-Atlantic get me all nostalgic this time of year. There's something so amazing about the stark opposites of winter: Blinding blizzards and ice storms, and the absolute, stunning silence of snow. I've always been fascinated with winter, and fondly remember my first taste of negative temperatures in Syracuse. Somehow, in this bone-chilling season, life goes on. Spring is more brilliant after a hard winter. There's really some magic to it. It was with all of those fond memories of winter that I designed the Woodland Winter Mittens kit. There are six pair of mittens, each pair telling the story of one of the colder months, from October to March. |

Ok, seriously, what is with this weather?! I bet no matter where you are in the country, you're saying the same thing. This winter has already been rough, and it's not even winter yet! (ok, I have been wishing I was back in Syracuse the last few days, I really do miss the snow!) On top of all that, there are only a couple of knitting weeks till the holidays are upon us once more. What to do? Well, for a fabulous, easy and quick stocking stuffer, how about some Cheery Cup Cozies! |

One of the more confusing parts of sleeves-inward shrugs is the shoulders. The obvious choice is to eliminate shaping, having the sleeves perpendicular to the body. I don't find that that shape fits me well, so despite the fact that this is lace, I decided to do short rows. |

When I think of taking a Snow Day this winter, I imagine myself cozied up on the couch, watching fireplace videos, and knitting happily on all of the tiny treasures in our new Snow Day Ornament pattern! |

I hate being cold. I hate seeing my loved ones get cold. I guess this might be why I love knitting so much! When I started dreaming up a design for a hat and convertible mitts to function as the ultimate warm accesories, I decided to zero in on the parts of me that get coldest, fastest, when I am out and about in the winter months: my ears, and my fingers. Using that a a starting point, I worked up a design for a dapper, plaid hat and mitts that would harness the intese softmness and warmth of Suri Dream and concentrate it exactly where it will be needed: lining the earflaps and mitten tops of our Into The Woods hat and mitts! |

I just got back from a camping trip. I went through the Redwoods and all the way down the California coastline to Big Sur. I saw elk, otters, seals, and even jellyfish, but it figures I wouldn't spot the most legendary creature of all, the Sasquatch, until I was back in my own backyard. |

Living in the Northwest, it is impossible not to be inspired by nature. For several months, I've had a sweater design in mind that would both represent some of the natural beauty I've been immersed in, but still have a sense of humor. I wanted a sweater that would be equally at home on a walk in the Columbia Gorge, a horseback ride on the plain, or a rainy late morning with a hot cup of coffee and a maple-bacon donut. So, I am of course very happy to share my latest sweater kit with you; the Gallatin Sweater! |

I don't hide the fact that I love it when sock yarn pools and flashes. The more obnoxious the better! But, I also know not everyone does. Multicolored sock yarns are so appealing, so what on earth can you do to limit the pooling, or at least make it look really cool? Find out with the Flash Dance sock kits! |
