I'm pretty sure that you could hear my exclamations from SPACE when we got our first copy of Anna Hrachovec's new book "Huge & Huggable Mochimochi". A giant stuffed tooth brush and tooth paste tube? YES PLEASE. An enormous pink squid driving a car?? You had me at Squidpocalypse. Page after page of incredibly cute knits had me clapping my hands and giggling with delight until we reached the page with Roland the rolly bug lounging in his folding chair. At this point, my brain exploded and I had to restrain myself from ripping the book out of Stacey's hands and making a copy of the pattern to take home over the weekend so that I could have my very own Roland ASAP. |

When Diadem arrived at the office, I was in love. I immediately grabbed my 3 favorite colors (Emerald, Moonstone and Azurite) to play with...but then I had a problem. What to make? I love these three colors together and knew I wanted something stripey but deciding on what would be perfect for this yarn was making me crazy. I thought about another Color Affection but I was worried I'd run out of my precious yarn. I started Lee Meredith's Waving Chevron Scarf but didn't like how it was coming out (not the pattern's fault by the way, it's a great pattern). Finally, I grabbed my hooks and decided to go with a simple crochet chevron cowl. |

I don't know if it's the suddenly dark evenings, the rainy weather, or the fact that Eggnog Lattes are back in season, but I've seriously been a homebody the last couple of weeks. I've always been a fan of knitting lovely winter and fall items to wear, but this year I got a bug in my ear for home items. So when, over the course of preserving the innards of seven Halloween pumpkins, my favorite kitchen towels started to give up on me, I decided to just make my own! Update: The pattern is now available for free! |

Our friend Katrina from our sister company Connecting Threads finished a gorgeous new blanket to show you! As the graphic designer for Connecting Threads, I’m typically blogging about small quilting and sewing projects that I've completed, however it’s time to switch things up a bit! Earlier this year, two of the ladies on the Knit Picks team graciously offered their time to teach a bunch of us non-yarn folk how to crochet. There is a long list of crocheting ladies in my family, and I was determined to be one of them. While I didn't pick up on it right away, it did eventually click and I found a new craft to be obsessed with. |

When we first started putting together Reclaimed, Addison by Thayer Preece immediately caught my eye. Rather unusual for me, since I rarely wear dresses (jeans & occasionally a skirt are pretty much my usual clothing choices) and most of my time, cardigans are my go to choice for knitted garments. Still, I kept coming back to it. When I was writing about Reclaimedfor the blog, I finally decided I needed to make it. |

After a pretty busy summer, I was finally able to take a vacation. Of course for me, vacation equals very little human contact and lots of dust. It was off to the desert for me! I love the high desert of Oregon, and spend as much time there as possible. When I'm back in civilization, I notice that I tend to favor desert colors in decor and clothing. So it should come as no surprise that the colors of Wool of the Andes Superwash that I'd picked out to play with are straight out of no-man's land. |

About once a catalog cycle I hear myself saying "Oh... I should really make this one" as I hold up one garment or another from a pattern collection during a photo shoot. That list keeps getting longer and I find myself forgetting about them once the catalog mails and some gorgeous project photo catches my eye on Pinterest or Ravelry. This time however, I managed to mentally "earmark" the Garter Ridge Hat from the Light Basics pattern collection as a project that would make a a lovely hat for my dad. |

During the height of summer, I was perusing one of my all-time favorite crochet books, Simple Crocheting by Erika Knight, when I was struck with the need to make the Classic Snood. The image of a large tweedy wool cowl paired with my favorite fall coat would not escape me, so I naturally spent an afternoon searching through my stash to find just the right yarn. Looking back, it's easy to see how the pages of cozy knits and oh-so-lovely photography transported me out of the sweltering summer heat and into the world of comforting winter accessories. Plus, who doesn't love having a few freshly finished accessories ready for the first day of cool autumn weather? |

When I was a nerdy little kid (as opposed the nerdy adult I am now), I LOVED the Choose Your Own Adventures books! Remember those? You are the protagonist of the story and determine the outcome by making decisions every few pages or so. I ate these up in my elementary and Jr High years and was excited to learn that my nephew loves them too so I could pass them along to the younger generation! Well, obviously, I'm not the only one who loved these books, as one of my favorite designers Lee Meredith has a brand new eBook based on them! |
