My day at Sock Summit!

Yes, I know, that is really thick yarn! It is a photo of two irresistable braids of 80% Merino/20% from Wonderland Dye Works that were my first purchase of the day. After sorting through my stash a couple of weeks ago, I realized that I still had fingering weight sock yarns from the first Sock Summit! The good news is that I was still completely in love with those yarns. That got me to thinking about the first Sock Summit and what I say to people when they ask me about it. I always explain it as being like visiting a large art museum. Each independent dyer has her, or his, color sensibility. Seeing booth after booth made that clear in a way I couldn't resist. Sort of like Monet and Picasso and Degas.

TNNA – the designers!

One of the best things about TNNA for me was meeting all the wonderful designers I work with all the time - both in the IDP program as well as on other projects.  I tried not to be all fangirly with designers I've loved even before I started working here but it was hard not to be starstruck. First up (once I remembered to start taking pictures) was one of the original IDP designers - David Castillo.

TNNA trip!

Last weekend, several of us from the office flew out to Ohio to go to the The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA) Market.  If you are not familiar with TNNA, this is an industry-only event for wholesale vendors to show off their wares.  Alison & Angela attended the one in Long Beach, CA back in January and had a great response, so for the market in Columbus OH, we sent out more people and had a bigger booth!

Kerin’s Knitting in Norway!

In yesterday’s picture, did you happen to notice anything special about Kerin’s outfit?  That’s right, she was wearing her Norwegian-inspired sweater!   Today, Kerin is happily knitting away in the snowy Norwegian Fjords, bundled up in her beautiful sweater and that very nice hat!  Are those alpacas?  We wonder where she could be off to tomorrow…  Remember, use hints from this picture to guess where Kerin will be tomorrow.  Look closely because this one’s a little tough.  If you’re the first person to guess correctly, you’ll win a $5 gift card! Your comments must be posted before 8AM PST tomorrow in order for them to count. *Please note, you must have a US or Canadian address to win.

Kerin’s Knitting in Alaska!

Did you guess correctly?  If you missed our post yesterday, we are having a contest to see if you can guess where Kerin is knitting around the world in celebration of World Wide Knit In Public Week.  Yesterday’s post showed a picture of Kerin’s trunk that contained a fishing vest.  Where better to fish than in Alaska’s beautiful rivers.  As you may have seen in our recent interview with Kerin, she LOVES to knit while she fishes.  Looks like she caught a big fish (err, sock) this time! Now remember, something in this picture is a hint for where Kerin will be tomorrow.  Post where you think she’ll be in the comments before 8AM PST tomorrow and if you’re the first one to get it right, you’ll win a $5 gift card to Knit Picks! Good luck!

Last stop: Scotland!

Did you catch the Fair Isle reference in yesterday’s post?  In case you don’t understand what Fair Isle has to do with Scotland, here’s a little history for you. Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours. It is named after Fair Isle, a tiny island in the north of Scotland, that forms part of the Shetland islands.  This is the last stop on Kerin’s journey around the world.  If you were playing along throughout the week, we thank you very much!  If you guessed the right answers and you were the first to do it, expect an email soon! For now, Kerin is on her way home.  What a fun vacation she has had! The last photo that we snapped from her journey was of her arriving in Portland at the airport!  She looks happy to be home.  A ...

TNNA, here we come!

I’m very excited because Alison and I are escaping from Vancouver’s cloudy grey skies for a couple of days to hit the TNNA trade show in Long Beach, CA this weekend. I’ve never been to TNNA, so I’m looking forward to checking out all the booths and groping lots and LOTS of yarn. You may have heard that Knit Picks is now offering our needles at whole sale prices to select local yarn stores. You can see a list of shops that are currently carrying our needles here. If you don’t see your favorite LYS, you can e-mail wholesale@knitpicks.com to suggest a retailer. We’re going to have a booth at TNNA so that local yarn store owners can see our needles in person, ask us questions about the new program, and sign up for whole sale accounts. If you’re going to be at TNNA, be sure to stop by the booth and ...
