Staff Projects: Comfy Babies!

Baby and children’s garments are popular staff knits here at Knit Picks. They offer a quick knit, not much shaping, and are so very satisfying to give to a new mom, or your own kiddo. When Comfy Worsted Heathers came into the office, Alison and Hannah took no time at all casting on for some great cotton garments that are sure to look great on some sweet small people they know.

Hannah went down to a size 2 needle and used 1 skein each of Comfy Worsted Heathers in Ripple Heather and Finnley Heather to make her Puerperium Cardigan (free pattern HERE). I love how subtle and beautiful the stripes look in heathered colors, and the side buttons will make this one easy to get on and off a newborn!

Garment and Accessory Books We Love

Sometimes I marvel at the craft world – about how many people are knitting, how many more people want to learn, and about how many amazing collections of knitwear  and crochet designs there are in the world. Will my queue ever get manageable? Will I ever think to myself, “I haven’t seen anything lately I really want to make”? Probably not.

So many books cross my desk here at Knit Picks, and so many of them are so striking, offering crafters a chance to make something truly breathtaking. With all books currently at 40% off in our book sale, I thought I’d highlight 3 books that I thought are really something special.

Crackerjacks and Baseball Stripes

It’s my favorite time of the year – the start of baseball season!  It’s that magical time when, no matter how badly your team did last year, it’s a fresh start for everyone – new faces, new plays, new records to break – and for my fellow baseball knitters, a new Crackerjack to start!

Last year I wrote about my Mariners Crackerjack scarf – a very fun pattern that follows a baseball team through the year, adding a different stripe after every game, depending on whether they won or loss.  While the pattern is infinity scarf, I chose to do mine as a regular scarf, since I wear those more.  And I kept with it throughout the ups & downs of the season and finished on the very last day of the regular season (heartbreaking, since the boys were thisclose to making it to the post season).
