Ready to Wrap

The staff at Knit Picks loves the holidays because we get to share all our crafty expertise with friends and family from baking treats to knitting with steeks. We also know that ambition can get the best of us, therefore, this year we designed for our gift giving-loving customers a menagerie of Ready to Wrap Gifts!

These curated kits arrive in an attractive box all ready for you to wrap. Use your favorite gift paper or just top it off with a fancy bow, it’s the maximum gift for minimum fuss, and you can choose from an array of project kits and gift packs.

Popular Pattern Kits like Beachcomber and Frost Slippers include *everything* you need for a specific pattern: yarn, needles, even essential notions like stitch markers and yarn needles.

Have a friend that wants to learn to Knit or Crochet or maybe just wants to learn a new skill?

The Learn to Kits are ideal. These kits not only come with the yarn and tools, but also a detailed instruction booklet intended for absolute beginners, with plenty of helpful photos.

More experienced knitters will appreciate a lace project kit, which includes a curated selection of our most delicious luxury lace yarns (including 100% silk Luminance!), or our ever popular Hue Shift Blanket. With so much yarn, they’ll definitely appreciate the included tote bags.

Have a friend that is always working on a project? Crafters are notoriously susceptible to the application of cute bags, so grab them this fun Working on my PhD kit.

Or splurge on a new knitter with our Essentials Tool Kit, full of the most necessary tools that they’ll use for years to come.

Whatever you decide we are here to make it easier and now until 12/20/2017 all the kits are 20% off!

Pattern Roundup – Current Favorites

As the rain goes so does my pattern queue. It’s been a long wet season in the Pacific Northwest and I have added many projects to my list, especially as my skills grow.  A “problem” many of us can relate to, I’m sure, no matter what the weather.

Easy Stripes Blanket

There are the ones that you just have to make because: so cute! Like the Easy Stripes Blanket. The pattern is simple and with just two colors the possibilities are endless. Perfect for every room in the house. I’m already planning to make it in  Custard Brava Worsted and Dove Heather Brava Worsted, and another in Crest Preciosa and Blue Skies Preciosa. Bonus is the pattern is free and it only takes 6 100gm balls of worsted, making this a very budget friendly gift project.

The Moxie Shawl caught my eye because it immediately made me smell flowers. I daydreamed of strolling in a park full of fresh spring blooms or the on boardwalk at dusk. Plus it will be a great way to test my crochet skills.

In a richer gem stone color it would make a perfect addition for an evening out. Biggest problem would be trying to narrow it down to one color of Luminance. Just look at the riches.

And because I can’t fight my love of whimsy, the Cowl’s Meow made it on to my list too. I love the colorways in Chroma and this looks like a fun project to step out of my comfort zone. Plus CATS!

Accessory Weather

Those frosted windshields and travel mugs full of hot tea mean that it’s accessory weather! Fingerless mittens have come out of storage weeks ago, I’ve started carrying around a slouchy hat in my purse for windy emergencies this week and I just sorted through my chest of knit sweaters. I’ve been pretty steadily increasing the winter wardrobes of my extended family and friends every Christmas and this year is certainly no different. I wanted to share a few of my recent favorites to add to your own gift list!

I heard that Tincanknits would be coming to my local yarn shop in a few months ago so I popped over to look at their patterns on Ravelry as a little refresher before I made a trip to see the projects in person. I fell in love with their Antler Hat pattern for a second time and decided to make one for my mother in Full Circle Worsted Ponderosa. I love the combination of simple repeats in this cable pattern and the lovely stitch definition of Full Circle. The single ply yarn makes such a bouncy, cozy fabric!

More recently, I whipped up a pair of Stacey’s Semplice Fingerless Mitts (free pattern!) in my favorite yellow: Turmeric in Swish DK. It doesn’t get more autumnal than that. I was able to do them two-at-a-time which means that both thumbs actually ARE the same length (I problem of mine when it comes to mittens). Unisex and super versatile – this pattern has been in heavy rotation lately as I try to whittle down my Christmas gift list!

Lastly, I wanted to try my hand a crochet beanie. I still have some Chroma Worsted samples kicking around in my stash and I just love how it crochets up. I discovered Rohn Strong‘s great patterns on Ravelry and tried my hand at his Grizzly hat pattern. It’s got just the right amount of slouch and fits perfectly, this pattern is definitely added to my “second time around” list for last minute gifts. I’ve got my eye on a ball of Chroma Worsted Soft Rock for one and Midwinter for another.

Are you still working on big gift projects for Christmas or are you trying to fill in some gaps with smaller accessories too? I still have one more sweater to get crackin’ on but then it’ll be smooth sailing for the rest of the month!
