Independent Designer Program

Have you seen our new pattern program yet?

I am so excited to be working on this – we have received so many awesome designs that my knitting queue grows longer day by day – something that was never a problem before but now is getting a bit out of control! Here are a couple of patterns I’m dying to knit RIGHT NOW:
Pink Pigtails (and Armwarmers Too!) by Toni Carr

Miss Marple by Star Athena

Aspen Mittens by Jennifer Adams

I wish I could knit them all, to be honest.
Unsurprisingly, I’ve already started the Wiener Dog – my poor blind & deaf puppy is sitting here on my desk, waiting for some eyeballs & ears.

Best part of this program (other than having super awesome patterns for only $1.99) is the fact the designer keeps 100% of the sales …

Mary Scott Huff event is next week!

I am so excited about the Mary Scott Huff event!
Here is a reminder of the event details:
Date: November 11, 2009
Time: 7-9pm
Location: Billy Frank Jr room at the Ecotrust building
721 NW 9th Ave
Portland, Oregon 97209

The Ecotrust Building is one of my favorite spots in Portland. It was the first LEED Gold certified historic renovation in the country. Much of the building uses reclaimed and recycled materials and the building is notable for its sustainable and energy efficient building techniques. The Ecotrust building is a really beautiful and unique space.
It is also in a really convenient location. The streetcar stop on Johnson is right in front of the Ecotrust building. If you take the bus or Max into downtown Portland, it is very easy to transfer to the streetcar lines. There is a very helpful trip planner on the Trimet website. Since our event is occurring on Veteran’s day, …

Mary Scott Huff Talk and Book Signing in Portland, Oregon 11/11/09

Hey Portland Area Knitters! We are having a local event, and we would love to meet you all in person!

Local author, Mary Scott Huff, is releasing a gorgeous new book, The New Stranded Colorwork, and we are so excited about it that we are organizing an author’s talk, trunk show, and book signing to celebrate. We have been fans of Mary Scott Huff’s designs for awhile. She designed several exclusive Knit Picks patterns such as the Selbu Blazer, the Lace-Rib Shrug, and the Empress Pullover.
But The New Stranded Colorwork celebrates Fair Isle knitting. She has patterns for women, men, and children. There are both sweaters and accessories. And Mary Scott Huff’s signature is rethinking traditional techniques and motifs to create new, fresh, and whimsical designs that stand out in your mind until they end up on the top of your knitting queue.
The event will begin with Mary …

Santa Hats on Parade!

Last year when Brooke Higgins designed Sheldon’s career costumes, she also made him a cute little Santa hat. When Melissa was working on the design for Grumpy, the lump of coal, we realized that if she knit the hat out of Palette instead of Shine, it would be Grumpy sized instead of Sheldon sized. Well, that got us thinking… What if you knit the same pattern out of Andean Treasure? Or Gloss Lace? Or Suri Dream? So we all started knitting Santa Hats out of different yarns. It turned into a bit of a race.
Melissa threw down the gauntlet and knit her hat out of Palette for Grumpy in only 52 minutes.

Stacey tried to beat her, but clocked in at 1 hour using Swish Worsted.

I knit my City Tweed HW hat …

Mystery Colorwork Project

It’s not too late to start Melissa’s mystery colorwork project! I’m one of the test knitters, so I’m a little ahead of the public pattern release (which is why I covered up part of my project in the photo) and I can tell you that it’s fun and beautiful! Melissa designed it so you don’t have to do very much knitting each week – it’s pretty easy, so that you can keep up (or catch up – the first installment of the pattern was released last Friday, and the next will be released this Friday).

Here are the colors of Palette that I’m using:
Foreground (photo center) – Currant
Background, in order (clockwise from lower left) – Brindle Heather, Marsala, Sweet Potato, Turmeric, Cornmeal, Golden Heather, Mai Tai Heather, Conch, Rose Hip, Raspberry Heather …

I have a giant pickle

Have you seen the free pattern for the pickle ornament? Well, I love the entire kit of ornaments and while I don’t actually like pickles….I had to make this one.
Meet Fredrick, the Giant Pickle

I happened to have a small amount of Swish on hand so I decided to just make a giant pickle. I went up to size 4 needles & whipped him up in an evening. I decided to give him some eyes…and he has some accessories that he’ll show off at a later date. 🙂

I’ll probably make a smaller one to hide in my family’s Christmas tree…but Fredrick is going to keep watch over my desk.
Now I really need to get back on to working on the Calluna Cardigan…I put it off because it got so hot here, but now that it’s cooled off, I’m excited to get this finished for the …

Pickle-pocalypse 2009

Have you seen the new Tidings of Joy kit yet? When we had the first staff meeting about Nina’s holiday ornament kit, I was surprised to see a knitted pickle included as one of the patterns. Tina explained that it’s a tradition for some families to hide a pickle ornament on their Christmas trees, and the first person to find the pickle is supposed to have good luck for a year. I’m not sure about the luck-pickle connection, but I do know that I laughed out loud when I first saw the knitted sample.
We’re offering the pickle pattern as a free download as a little holiday treat, a sort of early Christmas present for knitters who think squishy pickles are hilarious. It’s the only one we’re releasing for free from the Tidings of Joy ornament kit, but we’ll have some other exclusive freebie patterns coming up …
