Flowers in Spring

With Spring fast approaching, it’s almost time to start putting away
the woolen sweaters and coats. But you’ll still need something to keep
the chilly air at bay! How about the cheerful new Lilypad Shawl kit?

This shawl features a bold design of lily pads and flowers on a pond.
The lilies are worked in intarsia, and their simple shapes and coloring
are good for someone new to the technique. (If you need some pointers
on Intarsia, check out this video tutorial!)

Tyler

(Note: Our wonderful Purchasing Director Teri is one of the biggest cheerleaders for Brava – here’s her experience with it! You also may recognize her son Tyler from several patterns currently on our site such as the cute Duck Hat. – Stacey)

As soon as I heard we were getting acrylic yarn I rejoiced!

Roadtrip – TNNA!

So Jenny, Alisha, and I are all heading out to Phoenix AZ for TNNA!  This is a industry only trade show for retailers, wholesalers, designers, and other professionals in the needlearts community. You may remember our trip from last summer!

We are all very excited to be attending, getting to meet local yarn stores from all over the country that carry our needles, meeting with designers we work with & getting to look at all the new product being offered.  What I want to know is what sort of new products would you like us to carry?  We’ve been expanding our accessories & tools recently but we’re always on the lookout for new things to play with!

Baby Blanket Decisions

Even though my Christmas crafting is over, I still have some really fun gifts I’m excited to get started on. I have some really good friends expecting babies this year so that means I get to make a lot of baby things!

My first projects are for 2 dear friends who are expecting their first baby in May.  All of us are big University of Oregon Ducks fans (and if you are a college football fan, yes, we are all still celebrating the big win from yesterday) so I wanted to make sure I had a UofO theme for them.  I’ll definitely make a Duck Hat of course!

Freebie Friday – a Holiday Earflap Hat

Well, we suddenly got very cold here in the Pacific Northwest this week (“very cold” is subjective, I realize. Suffice to say, we’ve been grabbing our warm wooly gear though!).  If you’re also in the middle of a chilly December, check out this adorable hat from April Fehrman.

This is the Holiday Earflap Hat! It’s perfect to keep a young friend’s head nice & toasty warm when they’re out in the chilly air especially with the double thick ear flaps!

An unofficial survey (with a giveaway!)

Thanks for all of your suggestions!  Comments are now closed – we’ll announce the winners soon!

Over the past couple years,  I would say that the majority of my personal knitting projects are from downloaded patterns. The popularity of downloadable patterns has been growing every year – for instance, we have almost 1400 patterns in our Independent Designers program, not to mention our popular in-house designs, free patterns, eBooks and book patterns available for download as well.

I get requests from the IDP designers a lot, asking me what kind of patterns they should be working on.  Well, we know what we like & what we think would be popular with our customers but I thought I’d ask our blog readers – what kind of patterns would you like to see more of?  Sweaters? Socks? Hats? Easy patterns?  Challenging patterns?  Leave a comment below & let us know!
