Over the next few weeks, we'll be celebrating the release of our new collection "Knits for Everybody" by seeing how members of the Knit Picks staff have used these basic patterns to create something truly unique. This week, we're highlighting Knit Picks Graphic Designer Emily, who made adult mittens in a unique striped colorway! Here are the details, from Emily: I'll happily admit it: I'm a stripe addict. I own at least nine striped shirts, a pair of striped shoes, tank tops, shorts, dresses, you name it. I'm currently knitting a striped sweater AND cowl with stripes. I can't get enough! To me, stripes are the perfect design, with their endless possibilities and classic good looks. |

Question every crafter secretly longs to ask their significant other. All our future evenings and weekends for the rest of eternity hinged upon his answer. "Can I teach you to knit?" I rather hopelessly asked. "Hmmmm .. no." Heartbreak. Then, joy of all joys, a month later he enthusiastically exclaimed, "Can you please teach me to knit? I really want to learn!" (Lesson learned: give him time to mull). We took our needles and Dishie yarn to a local tea shop, and over a steaming mug of Brain Power tea, we dove into the wonderful world of cast-ons, knits and purls, as tickled strangers smiled at the cute couple crafting dishcloths together. |

Independent Designer Project Round Up Summer is definitely winding down... the days are shorter, the evenings a bit cooler, and the kids are back in school. Even though we are in the midst of a heat wave (along with much of the country), we still want to get our fall/winter knitting going. Instead of big projects like sweaters or afghans, we find ourselves constantly grabbing smaller projects to work on - items that can be done quickly during marathons our favorite tv shows while sitting in air conditioned bliss. An excellent pattern for that would be Joyce Fassbender's newest free hat pattern - CouCou Cable Chapeau! |
