I just started knitting Frankie Brown’s Ten Stitch Twist Blanket. She has the neatest charity concept – she’s selected a charity close to her heart – the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, and offers her patterns free on Ravelry, hoping that those who use her patterns will donate to the charity. This is a great way to support a charity when you select a pattern, then you can also give the finished product away to another charity if you like. I’m using Palette yarn double stranded, two colors at a time. And, I’m alternating when the colors switch so it has a somewhat gradated look. I’m going to keep knitting until the blanket is 60″ across. Alison commented that this construction technique is as close to crochet as knitting will ever get because you only have 10 stitches on your needles at any one time. |

I just spent a week at the Knit Picks warehouse in Ohio. Heaven. Really nice folks, and a huge building bursting with yarn (and fabric and paint!). What a fun job I have! I got to see the staff making the Carmen Bananas Kits, and the holiday ornaments kits. I had packed light, since the warehouse is definitely dress casual, so I had room to buy a Carmen Bananas kit, and some of the hand-painted stroll yarns. And I got some duller green yarn to make my DH some socks (he has some trousers that color). I had to restrain myself, though! I’m a terrible string addict. I really wanted the Holiday Ornaments kit – I think those knitted strings of colored lights are about the cleverest things I’ve ever seen. But I’ve committed to making snowmen this year, so I just couldn’t justify getting the ornaments kit. Sigh. Don’t ... |

Today is the last day that you can join the Knitters for Knockers team for the Walk for the Cure. The date for the walk is September 20th. The organizers need time to gather t-shirts, etc. for all of the teams. You can always register individually after today and still walk with us. You can even register on the day of the walk. We will be on the Non-Timed 5K walk and we will have big balloons with the Knitters for Knockers logo on them. Several of my friends enjoy Sleeping In For The Cure! I’m sure you can appreciate the appeal. Xena wanted to Sleep In but I said, “No, way!” < |

I continue to be on a Sock Summit high! It seems that every time I have a few minutes, I’m grabbing my current sock obsession. You know how much I love Charlene Schurch’s sock patterns. Well, I was so wound up after the four sock-saturated days that I didn’t want to have to actually think about pattern selection. I just wanted to cast-on something and KNIT SOCKS! Well, Charlene’s Little Box of Socks was the perfect solution! Particularly since I had grabbed two skeins of Imagination we had left over in the sample box. It may be a “little box” of patterns but they encompass a broad scope. I particularly love the patterns for hand-painted, or hand-dyed yarns. The Ric Rac Rib pattern was exactly what I wanted. A very simple pattern that would make the most of the hand-painted colors in the Mermaid Lagoon colorway. ... |

One of my favorite features on Ravelry is that you can search for a pattern, and then see all of the finished projects that other knitters have made. For instance, I looked up Mr Foster, and there were 115 projects! Here is a sample of some really wonderful finished Mr Fosters. I’ve credited each knitter with their Ravelry screen name under each picture. Typeknit IBAmyB Sheepsocks NoKnitSherlock PAKnitWit This is just a sample, there are a lot of really great Mr Foster monkeys posted to Ravelry! Also, don’t forget to enter in the Mr Foster Halloween costume contest! All that you need to do is create a handmade Halloween costume for Mr Foster using yarn or fabric. You can use store bought accessories. The deadline is August 31st, 2009 and you just need to take a photo of Mr Foster wearing his ... |

We’ve been getting a lot of messages lately from people who are new to the Knitting Community with questions about our knitalongs. I wanted to extend a quick welcome and explain how the knitalongs work. Most of our knitalongs are ongoing. That means you can join them at any time, there is no set day and time you have to start. They also have no end date. You can start the day it goes live, or you can join after it’s already been going on for a couple of months. No matter when you join, the odds are pretty good someone else will be online ready to answer any questions that pop up or give you a little moral support if you have to rip back. Members of our staff moderate many of our knitalongs and if a knitalong or thread is dedicated to one of our in house patterns, our designers ... |

This year the Susan G. Komen Foundation is celebrating its nineteen year anniversary. In those few years the determination of Nancy Brinker to keep the promise she made to her sister, Susan G. Komen, has blossomed into an international focus of love, shared sorrow, medical breakthroughs and hope. When you visit the Foundation’s wedsite, you understand how Nancy’s promise has grown so dramatically. You will find information, support and, most importantly, a variety of ways that individuals can help achieve the Foundation’s vision off a world without breast cancer. This year I am choosing to take a step up from walking with a few friends to leading a team. It may sound like quite an undertaking but the Susan G. Komen Foundation makes leading a team surprisingly easy. Everything including an easily navigated, and personalized, team site, options for recruiting people for my team and communicating with them right up to the ... |

Since we released our new colors of Palette, I’ve heard a lot of knitters mention that they would like to see a photo of all the colors lined up to be able to compare them next to each other in the same lighting. I thought that sounded awesome, so I got to work hunting down all 83 colors and arranging them in a way that made sense. The columns are roughly arranged by hue in color wheel order. The rows go roughly from the darkest value to the lightest, with the neutrals being slotted at either end in the columns they coordinated best with. Seeing them all laid out like this is amazingly helpful! I can now see at a glance the pastels, the mid-tones, and the darks just by looking across the rows. The above photo is the pretty “art” version, not ... |
