Thanks for all of your suggestions! Comments are now closed - we'll announce the winners soon! Over the past couple years, I would say that the majority of my personal knitting projects are from downloaded patterns. The popularity of downloadable patterns has been growing every year - for instance, we have almost 1400 patterns in our Independent Designers program, not to mention our popular in-house designs, free patterns, eBooks and book patterns available for download as well. I get requests from the IDP designers a lot, asking me what kind of patterns they should be working on. Well, we know what we like & what we think would be popular with our customers but I thought I'd ask our blog readers - what kind of patterns would you like to see more of? Sweaters? Socks? Hats? Easy patterns? Challenging patterns? Leave a comment below & let us know! |

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions on our little survey! They were all really helpful & we'll make sure to pass them along to the IDP designers. We randomly chose the winners for the prizes - I hope they enjoy the pretty Glimmer yarn! |

All of use here in the office read lots of crafting blogs - we're all bigtime crafters so we like to keep up with what's going on! One of our favorites is Sweatshop of Love, the wonderful blog by Allyson Dykhuizen. We were delighted when she submitted some of her designs for the IDP program. Now she has a cute little free pattern with us too! Presenting the Tinfoil Tiara Brigade: The Headband Pattern! |

Conest is over - thanks everyone! We'll announce the winners soon! One of the best things about this job is the fact that I finally was introduced to crochet, much to my mom's delight. She had tried to teach me so many times but it never stuck until about a year ago - and now I have so many great crochet patterns to choose from! Two of my all time favorite crochet designers are Ann Marie Ivins and Linda Permann - both of of whom I've discussed here on the blog. Because I think they are both so wonderful, I figured I'd hold a blog contest to celebrate them! |

And you know what that means? Crisp cool weather, pretty falling leaves, hot apple cider....and Halloween! Our IDP designers have some great patterns to get you in the mood. For example: That's Natty Knit's Pumpkin Head - super cute & super quick - I made one last year in just a couple of hours! |

From now until the holidays, we are going to have Freebie Friday! We are going to post a brand new free pattern every Friday (or highlight our favorite from our current library!) so we can get you all ready for the gifts you'll be knitting & crocheting for family and friends this year - or heck, for yourself! Our first one is from IDP designer Christine Olson - a super cute Lacy KiP Bag! |

As the IDP Coordinator, one of the more fun parts of my job is doing photo shoots. Some designers aren't able to take photos that work on our website so every 6 weeks or so, we schdedule an IDP photo shoot where we photograph the projects on one of our models. Usually, when I do the shoots, there's about 20-30 projects that need to be photographed all in one day! My favorites shoots are the ones we can do outside - often times (especially from October - March) we aren't able to because it's too cold (or in most cases rainy!). But in the milder months, it's a lot more fun. While most of the photos you see in the catalog are shot in different locations, all the IDP shoots are done right around our office. Luckily, our offices are surrounded by nature rather than buliding so we have lots of options for backgrounds! Like we have pretty trees... |

This week is all about eBooks! First, Kelley gets a chance to talk with Erica Jackofsky, an IDP designer and author of the eBooks Sweet Treats and Musical Minds. Next up, Alison chats with Lee Meredith, who designed the Swerve Mitts available through IDP and created the eBook, Game Knitting. Kelley then catches up with Liat Gat who created a unique format where eBooks combine with videos. Liat currently has five eBooks available through Knit Picks and includes eBooks on magic loop socks, magic loop, 2-at-a-time mittens, learn to knit continental, and double knitting. Finally, Alison talks with designer, Beth Hahn who also is part of the IDP program and combines stories, watercolor illustrations and knitting patterns in her series of eBooks, The Adventures of Miss Flitt. 3 easy ways to listen… |

Believe it or not, the only time I have ever taken a knitting class was at Sock Summit 2009. And I only took 2 classes (you can see my write up here, my very first Knit Picks blog post!) So this time around, I decided to fill my schedule - I took a total of 4 classes, one each day, plus I attended Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's lecture as well. I was very busy all weekend but it was a lot of fun (of course!) |
