We are definitely lovers of fair isle knitting around here, and whether it's the patterns from our new collection or elsewhere, we love marveling at the stranded knitting of crafters far and wide. Here's a round up of some of our favorite Ravelry fair isle projects (in a variety of yarn weights!), as well as a sneak peak behind the scenes of the photo shoot for the 2015 Knit Picks Fair Isle Collection. |

Bright pops of color and captivating patterns are hard to resist during the grey days of winter. And Fair Isle is the perfect remedy for us knitters, though it can be a bit intimidating at first! We carefully crafted the 2015 Fair Isle Collection to walk knitters through the fair isle technique with pint-sized projects like the Lavender Sachets. Once you've built up the foundations of fair isle, you'll be ready to tackle slightly larger projects like the Earflap Hat & Cowl Set. Finally - the culmination of technique and dedication ends one of several tempting sweaters and cardigans. Want to see more? When we came up with an idea of doing a crochet afghan book, my thoughts immediately went to my late grandmother, who made so many snuggly blankets over the years. Nearly every year, I received one - each one different but beautifully done. So when I thought about what I wanted to do for my pattern, I remembered how she loved doing all types of granny squares and piecing them together. I grabbed some Wool of the Andes Superwash and played around with my hook - in the end, I came up with my Efflorescence Throw. |

I always try to keep a small project on my hooks or needles as a sort of crafty "palate cleanser" while I'm working on intense, long-term projects. I've noticed that it helps to keep me motivated and excited about those big pieces if I can take a mini break and finish something else quickly. My newest favorite mini knit is Purl Soho's free Garter Flap Hat (teeny tiny baby sized). |

When our newest yarn, Lindy Chain, arrived at the office, it was love at first sight. The gorgeous colors! The cool crispness of the fiber! The way it seemed to shine and glow! I was so excited, I had to sit down for a bit. Once I recovered, I realized I had the perfect pattern for this yarn all queued up- the lovely and classic Strathcona, by Jane Richmond. |

New American Knits takes the slim, functional silhouettes from American sportswear genre and spices them up with lovely details inspired by famous American artists. I'm utterly smitten with each of the projects in this collection, starting with the absolutely gorgeous Nevelson Lace Pullover featured above. The color palette, photography and unexpectedly modern details has me reaching for my needles and contemplating another attempt at set in sleeves just so that I can have a few of these pieces in my growing knitwear collection. |
