My son Nate is growing like a weed, and keeping up with his increasingly-large clothing is a bit of a challenge. I tend to get all wide-eyed from sticker shock when I see baby and toddler sweaters in stores, so most of my knitting lately has focused on little pullovers and cardigans. 
Spring looks like it’s here, but the weather still isn’t convinced. T-shirts are still relegated to storage and my sweater collection is in full rotation, I’ve even been double layering sweaters outside to do yard work. Cold days also means a cold house where hand washed things take a whole week to air dry (if I’m lucky) so I found myself contemplating a range of cheap polar fleece jackets to wear while I dig up bushes and mix compost into my soon-to-be dye garden in the back yard. I didn’t see anything I liked, but I did see a bag of Brava Worsted in Peacock that looked pretty enticing so I gave in to my knitting needles and decided to cast on the Worsted Crewneck from Worsted Basics pattern collection.
Read more »Every year, I cast on for a new project for the new year. This year, I opted for my favorite type of pattern – a plain cardigan with some neat details. So I went with Andi Satterlund‘s Armande from Knitty.
I just love the pockets & collar! I happened to have more than enough Wool of the Andes Superwash (my new favorite yarn) in Garnet Heather and it seemed like a perfect choice. So I dutifully cast on January 1st.
Read more »As you may have noticed in my last crochet post, I’m hard at work on another monstrous crochet project. I’ve taken a break from the wee stitches of doilies and settled in with some repetitive Circled Squares in Chroma!
Finny isn’t the only one who is rather smitten with this afghan-in-progress. My other little guy has been seeking out any part of it – loose squares and all – to nestle in to. But most of the time it’s draped across the couch – I’m already using it, even though it’s not even halfway assembled yet!

I, like my fellow coworkers, love to crochet. So I’m so excited to present Serenity, our first very first crochet collection!
This gorgeous book has 8 patterns by 8 different independent designers and I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to work on. We wanted a variety of types of patterns included and we especially wanted to include garments, which is somewhat difficult to find for crocheters. We also wanted to highlight lighter weight yarns – everything from lace to worsted.

If you are looking for some summer knitting projects, may I suggest Joyce Fassbender’s collection of lacy confections in Sunset Over the Cascades. I am thrilled with the variety of styles and yarns the Joyce used in her designs.
Read more »I am a huge fan of color. I love to mix and match and get some lovely and unique color combinations. My favorite is to dye Bare Roving and Yarn using the Jacquard Acid Dyes – there are so many colors to choose from! There are also many methods to dyeing. I used the crock pot method for this blog.

Hah! You thought it was going to be a pair of socks!! I recently spoke with Jen Lucas about her new book Sock-Yarn Shawls for an upcoming podcast. I loved the book and Jen’s enthusiasm got me excited to decide on one of her shawls for our trip to the east coast this weekend.

Believe it or not, the only time I have ever taken a knitting class was at Sock Summit 2009. And I only took 2 classes (you can see my write up here, my very first Knit Picks blog post!) So this time around, I decided to fill my schedule – I took a total of 4 classes, one each day, plus I attended Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s lecture as well. I was very busy all weekend but it was a lot of fun (of course!)
