I have no less than 5 friends having babies by the end of 2014: my pediatrician, my daughter’s best friend’s mom, my sister…one friend is even having twins! I have to knit every new baby I know something, too. I consider it a good luck charm. With two babes of my own, time is short so I’m always in need of a go-to baby knit.

Dandelion Shine Sport never looked so good! Shine’s soft cotton blend combined with the bumpy texture of this stitch results in the perfect washcloth. There are no decreases or increases involved either! Each “bump” is formed by creating a small chain of knits in a single stitch and then the chain is popped to the front of the project on the next row. It’s such a fun stitch to work with! Plus there’s a simple four row repeat that’s easy to memorize and quick to knit.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Billow for blankets of any shape and size? I am officially hooked! This is my second blanket that I’ve made with this bulky cotton and there are just so many reasons why I will inevitably continue to make more.
Aside from Billow’s supreme softness, I adore how the slight thick-and-thin nature of Billow translates in crocheted stitches. Plus, it’s an excuse to whip out my hefty 6.5mm crochet hook! And that means lots of progress in short amounts of time, which is insanely satisfying when it comes to making blankets.
The days are (slowly!) getting warmer here in the Northwest, and so I was inspired to knit something a little more spring-like than my usual warm hats and cardigans. I was paging through knit.wear’s Spring/Summer 2014 issue and when I spotted the Six Point Tee, I knew I’d found my next project. It was so beautifully simple and stylish, and with the bulky weight yarn it’d work up quickly. This is important because while I really enjoy the process of knitting, I love wearing the finished product more!
Read more »Designing for our 52 Weeks of Dishcloths has been such a wonderful excuse to revisit my collection of stitch dictionaries. I love pouring through these collections and experimenting with new stitches. This one in particular stood out to me – I loved how the cluster stitch resembled a star, but adding it against stripes created what looked like a flower or vegetable garden to me. I knew that I had found my inspiration for the next dishcloth.

Hawthorne is my newest yarn crush with the lovely color palette, local yarn names (so much fun to pick!) and the wonderfully durable fiber blend it’s perfect for so many different projects. Alison has been making baby sweaters, I’ve seen a few lovely shawls and I’ve personally made almost four pairs of socks since we got the samples in the office. We also reknit the Gradual Rib Hat from the Geometric Pattern Collection in Rose City and Irvington, I like the new colors even BETTER than the original Stroll colorway!
