Mother’s Day Gift Guide: Back to basics

Knitting is something my mother is very familiar with – she grew up with her mother to look up to who was an incredible seamstress and an accomplished knitter. And even now, my mom will casually knit a scarf during the winter season.

This is why I think a care package of beginner basics would be perfectly suited for my mom and it just might tempt her to keep knitting past winter into the warmer months!

First up for my Mother’s Day picks is a dreamy selection of Bare yarns. I think this would be just lovely for a mother who is new to knitting or might be interested in exploring stitches beyond the basics. I’d definitely include Swish (it’s machine washable and super-soft!), Preciosa (again – a luxe treat that is amazingly soft to knit with), Wool of the Andes Bulky (because you know I gotta sneak in some wool love!) and maybe a hank of the Special Reserve Pima Cotton.

Next on my list is the book Knitting Know-How, I think this would be the perfect companion for a new knitter that wants to expand their skills and explore a range of projects.

A new knitter will definitely be in need of new knitting needles! My favorite suggestion for those just starting to knit are 10″ straight needles in our Sunstruck finish. The light colored wood makes it easy to keep track of the stitches while the smooth finish of the needles allow the stitches to move with ease (which is important, new knitters tend to knit very tightly when first starting out)!

Finally, what knitting care package would be complete without a gorgeous tote to carry everything neatly in one place? My mom loves neutrals and I love how simple yet versatile this bag from Fog Linen is.
