Living in the Northwest, it is impossible not to be inspired by nature. For several months, I’ve had a sweater design in mind that would both represent some of the natural beauty I’ve been immersed in, but still have a sense of humor. I wanted a sweater that would be equally at home on a walk in the Columbia Gorge, a horseback ride on the plain, or a rainy afternoon with a hot cup of coffee and a maple-bacon donut. So, I am of course very happy to share my latest sweater kit with you; the Gallatin Sweater!

This sweater works up quickly in Wool of the Andes Bulky. Available in two neutral palettes, the pattern comes with charts to make all of the motifs pictured, so you can pick and choose the colorwork patterns you like the best. For the main motif, I was really excited to draft charts for a cheeky deer

and an abstract motif inspired by hazelnuts:

The sweaters pictured are hip length, but the length of the pattern is adjustable down to mid-thigh either by adding additional bands of the colorwork motifs, or by working extra stripes in the contrast colors (as I’ll be doing when I make my own!) Finished chest sizes range from 33 inches to 53 inches, so the sweater will fit a wide range of knitters (and gift recipients!) and the pattern for the stipred rope belt is incuded as well. The constuction of the sweater is nearly seamless–only two short seams at the underarms and two at the tops of the sleeves must be sewn after knitting.

I’ve been just DYING to start knitting one of these for myself but I’ve made myself wait until the weather began to cool down. But now that it has, I’d bettter get a move on if I want to finish this in time to wear this year!!
