Fall is in the air!

It’s beginning to feel like fall here in the Pacific Northwest!  I apologize to those who are in the middle of the heatwave and are now throwing things at the monitor (my partner is currently in Boston and pretty much hates the fact that I told him how cool it is out here at the moment).  BUT!  Fall is my favorite time of year – I love the cool crisp evenings and especially digging out my woolies!  So the last couple of nights I’ve got to wear my sweaters & hats for the first time in months.

And I finished a new sweater just in time!

Merlot Hoodie

This is the Salem Hooded Jacket from New England Knits.  I’ve already said how much how much I love this book and this sweater was exactly what I was looking for.  I constantly wear my Central Park Hoodie that I made over 3 years ago.

Central Park Hoodie

It’s out of Wool of the Andes – and wow, my hair was long then.

And while I still love it – it’s still holding up well – I needed an update.  I thought about reknitting it again out of something different but then I got my copy of New England Knits and the reknit flew right out of my head.

Merlot Hoodie

This is like my dream sweater – it has a hood, interesting stitch pattern on the cuffs and (best of all) pockets!  It was so much fun to make.  And it was super quick – I used Swish Bulky in Merlot Heather and it took me only about 3 weeks (miracle for me – I’m really slow).  It’s so warm & cozy and made going to an outdoor show over the weekend a whole lot more comfortable!

I did a few modifications, most notably the buttons.  I have several cardigans that button just at the top, like the original, but I wanted this to be more of a warm jacket, so I added them all the way down.  I love it – especially the super cute handmade buttons I found at my favorite LYS Twisted.

I love buttons

Since there aren’t many projects for this on Ravelry, I took a lot of notes – you can seem them all right here.

Then I just had to start a new project – yes out of New England Knits again.

tiger lily sweater

This the Greenfield Cardigan – a lovely garter stitch sweater, perfect for watching TV or (like today) knitting during a meeting.  And best of all…it’s out of Capra …mmmmmmmm.  I love Capra and this color – Tiger Lily – has been my favorite color since we first got the samples.  I can’t say why – I’ve never been an orange fan – but there’s just something about Tiger Lily that I just adore.  I’m very excited to finish this one – I’m hoping I can finish in time for my holiday in Seattle at the end of the September so I can get some great photos in one my favorite cities!  Though going from a bulky weight to a dk weight sweater means it’s taking a bit longer this time.

What are some of your favorite sweaters for the fall?
