This is a very old, free pattern - which is exactly my point. I still have the original! My intention was to make a long, narrow, easy to knit item that took advantage of the lightweight warmth of Suri Dream. I tell people that it is my Airplane Blanket. I deliberatly shaped it to fit an airplane seat. I can wrap one end around my feet and pull to rest all the way up over my shoulders. Once we arrive at our destination, I can use it as an evening shawl. If we are eating outside on a really chilly night (it happens frequently in Hawaii), I curl up on my chair and wrap the whole thing around me like a poncho. Snugly warm! I also use it in my hotel room as a nap blankie and I even lay it over the thin blanket on the bed for extra comfort while I sleep. When knitters give handknit gifts, they want them to be used! Sometimes the item is so cherished that it never gets out of its cedar cocoon. Sometimes, the gift doesn't quite fit the recipient's lifestly despite our best intentions. My blankie/shawl has had a good life. When I'm not dragging it with me on trips, I use it as a throw when I'm reading or knitting. When I can get it away from Xena. So, here is my question. What have you knit that has been well-used? Was it for you or did you give it away as a gift? How did you figure out what the recipient would wear or use a lot? |

A few years ago I was absolutely devastated when the J. Peterman Company stopped sending out their catalogs. I had been collecting them for years and even made an occassional purchase of something special. When I received a new catalog a couple of years ago I was absolutely thrilled! The same romantic stories accompanied each item. I vowed that I would treat myself to a couple more treasures each year to help keep those catalogs coming to me. They also send out e-mails. The last one reminded me that I also find a lot of knitting inspiration in the J. Peterman catalogs. There has got to be a way to design a knit version of these Scalloped Gloves. Maybe a narrow band of ribbing at the wrist and then a sideways border like on a lace shawl. Or, even something as simple as a shale lace pattern? |

Happy Tuesday everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that our IT team was working on the website last night making some changes and updates to get it to run faster. There was a brief period last night when only 75 colors were showing. Now, all 450+ sale colors are back on the sale yarn page and they're all 25-35% off until 11:59pm PST tonight. The site should be running much faster today. We're very sorry about the slow load times yesterday; we know that must have been really frustrating. Thanks again for being so patient and supportive! Have a great day! -Alisha |

I love simple shopping. If I buy furniture from IKEA, everything I need to make the table comes right in the box and I add it to my cart with one click - no searching for the right nuts and bolts. Its a complete package. With the growing popularity of our IDP program, I wanted to bring this same convenience to the hundreds of $1.99 independent designer pattern downloads available, so that you can support your favorite designers and get the same yarn they used with one-click!Just like the exclusive Kits that Kerin & Nina create for us, IDP Kits contain the pattern & yarn you will need to create the project as seen in the photo. The pattern will still be a PDF download sent to you by email and the yarn will be on its way to your door shortly after! The designers still receive 100% of the pattern profits, but you save time and rest assured you're getting what you need to start knitting. On applicable pattern pages, you'll see an option to select "Yarn Kit". Choose your preferred size or colorway and the price will update to show the cost of the $1.99 download, plus the cost of the yarn. We've done all the math for you, so you'll get the right amount of yarn in the right color, but if you want more yarn, you'll be able to change the quantity in your shopping cart - where the yarn and pattern show as separate items.
