A Weaving Contest!

Thank you to everyone who participated! This contest is now closed.  To see who won, click here: Winners I haven't had a chance to do a contest for a while so when I heard that we had some weaving prizes to give away, you can imagine my excitement! Weaving is one of those crafts that I find immensely fascinating.  I could watch someone weave all day long without blinking -- it's that intriguing. Uniformity, structure, and tight lines are so appealing to me so when I see a woven project, I am immediately drawn to it. I mean, look at this beautiful scarf!

We have a name AND an announcement!

There's something about these socks that just makes us smile.  They're so much fun and you know that they were knit with love!  We want to thank everyone who contributed their ideas for names. I can tell you that all of us here at Knit Picks were in stitches (ha!) reading through them.  While it is sad that we could only have one winner, the good news is that we think we've picked a great one!   Read more for our special announcement!

Designer Interview Videos

In addition to the great tutorials and videos we have available at Knit Picks, we have also been working hard on expanding our videos to include a behind the scenes look at new kits! If you have ever wondered about the inspiration behind the projects or simply want to hear more about the design process that goes into the kits, you really have to check out the Designer Interview videos! After all of the designing, editing, sample knitting and re-editing is done and the kits are ready to make their debut, I ask our talented designer Kerin to give everyone an inside look into each kit. These designer videos are really great for finding out which specific techniques, construction and design elements are used as well as learning about any tips or tricks Kerin might have to make your project a success. I find it endlessly fascinating to hear about the point of inspiration that started each project alongside the final piece.

These are a few of my favorite things… for spring!

If you live anywhere near the northwestern United States, you know that spring has come later than normal this year.  Fortunately, over the past couple of weeks, the sun has decided to shine a little bit and the flowers have (hesitantly) started to bloom.  In honor of these little breaks from the dreary gray skies, I have decided to share a few spring pattern ideas with you that will brighten up any day - sunny or not! The Rachel's Bag pattern by Cassidy Clark definitely tops my list of fun, fashionable must-haves this spring.  The bag is fashionable, practical, and adds a certain flair to any outfit.  In other words, it's the perfect accessory!

100K!

I realize that I shouldn't be shocked any longer at just how big the IDP program has gotten over the past 15 months but I just got some big news -  this past weekend we hit 100,000 pattern sales!  Wow!  That is amazing - and best of all, all of those sales went directly to the fantastic group of designers we have in the program so far.  As of last week, we have over 350 IDP designers - we generally add about 20 new designers a month in fact! Have you checked out some of the new patterns recently?  There's been so much exciting new stuff coming out - my queue grows larger & larger every week!  Here are some of my favorite new designers & patterns:

The results are in for the 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards!

As many of you already know, several of Knit Picks' yarns and needles were nominated for Best-Of in the 2011 Reader's Choice Awards on about.com. To become a finalist for the awards, about.com's staff must sift through hundreds of different nominations and pick the top five for each of the five categories.  We are elated to say that Knit Picks was selected as a finalist in four out of the five categories, including: Best Wool Yarn (Wool of the Andes); Best Cotton Yarn (double nomination - Shine and Simply Cotton); Best Sock Yarn (Stroll); and finally, Best Knitting Needles (double nomination - Harmony and Options Interchangeables).  As if that weren't exciting enough, we are delighted to say that we took home the 1st place spot for the Best Knitting Needles category with our Harmony wood needles! (insert happy dance) If you would like to read about the awards, click here: Reader's Choice Awards - Knitting. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us, we really appreciate your support!
