Sooo...some of you are not into lace knitting, am I right? For those of you (ok, us) who shy away from lace, let's talk about good, solid, new-to-us stitch patterns. If this summer is, for you, about trying new stitches with very little commitment, then our Loganberry Dishcloth Tutorial has just what you need! Make a few today and fall in love with these tiny bobbles, so easy to memorize and fun to create. You'll not only be left with a great stitch pattern to use again and again, you'll have a dishcloth that's useful, too! |

Lace is really hard for me. I've tried it a few times and had no good results. I'm resolving to try again, however, and in doing so, I'm going to start with the basics. As much as I would love to try the patterns in Joyful Lace, and go forth with our new 100% silk yarn, Luminance, I will start small. So I'm going to cast on with our cotton yarn Dishie, and try to knit a Lacy Spa Cloth. With a super repeatable pattern that I can memorize really quickly, I think this will be a fast project where I can repeat my yarn overs and get used to how things look on the needles, before I progress to larger patterns. The texture reminds me of those string market bags you see at the Farmer's Market all summer long. Maybe I'll try my hand at one of those, next! Have you downloaded the Jazz Age Crochet Washcloth pattern yet? I have, and like many people somewhat new to crochet, I was not very confident that I have what it takes to make one. If this sounds like you, fear no more! We have a new video tutorial that will teach you all the key steps to crocheting your very own Jazz Age Washcloth. So grab some yarn (any will do, though the pattern suggests CotLin and that's what Jenny uses for the video), a crochet hook (we use a 4mm hook, though gauge isn't so important for a washcloth), watch the tutorial, and complete your very own Jazz Age Washcloth! |

aka: Learning to knit something besides scarves. As the newest member of the Knit Picks team, I have a lot to learn! I am fairly new to knitting... although I've known how to knit for years, until I came to work at Knit Picks I hadn't made anything more complicated than a garter-stitch scarf. In less than a week of employment I was drooling over yarn and planning out what to create next. It was obvious I was going to need to learn to knit on a more sophisticated level. Fortunately I am surrounded by talented knitters who have been so very patiently helping me! Let me share a bit of my beginning knitter's journey, aka: learning to knit something besides scarves. |

suspect the reason I love making blankets so much is that they are basically grown up dishcloths. You get the ease of a dishcloth pattern (think: no shaping!) but the pizazz the size of a blanket affords. This lovely lace pattern is the free Jazz Age dishcloth from our 52 Weeks of Dishcloths: A Kitchen Spectacular. I named it Queen Jane in honor of my little niece who was born just this week. Her adorable siblings held a coronation to install her as High Queen of the Home. Once the bitty Queen is big enough, she'll claim this blanket as her rightful own! |
