With the weather finally getting warmer (er, minus the crazy snowstorm that I found myself driving in last week), my mind has been turning to some lightweight projects.  I decided it was time to make myself a nice new little hat out of one our new Chroma colors.

Green is my favorite color so I naturally gravitated towards Impressionist for a springy beret.  I just love how all the colors look together!  I knew I wanted to use the fingering weight for a hat – because I already had a pattern in mind.

I’ve been in love with Linda Permann‘s Steller Beret since we added it to IDP.  I finally feel like my crochet skills have improved enough to take it on – crocheting two big afghans will do that!  This pattern is great, as are all of Linda‘s patterns – easy to follow, even for a semi-novice like me.  I’d never done the little puff stitches along the band but I picked it up pretty easily. And I’m pretty happy that my stitches turned out so nicely!

This is such a perfect project for Chroma too – it takes less than a skein so it’s great project for that odd skein that you added to your cart because it was so pretty. (er, not that I’ve ever done that).  I also really enjoy using fingering weight yarn for hats – it makes such a lightweight hat that will keep you warm without overheating you.  In fact, I just started a new hat project, the free pattern Sockhead, which I think would also look fun in Chroma. I have a skein of Elfin at home actually (again with the green love) that I may have to try out as well!
