It wasn’t long after our wedding last year that I sprung The Question on him. You know, The Question every crafter secretly longs to ask their significant other. All our future evenings and weekends for the rest of eternity hinged upon his answer.
“Can I teach you to knit?” I rather hopelessly asked.
“Hmmmm .. no.”
Heartbreak.
Then, joy of all joys, a month later he enthusiastically exclaimed, “Can you please teach me to knit? I really want to learn!” (Lesson learned: give him time to mull). We took our needles and Dishie yarn to a local tea shop, and over a steaming mug of Brain Power tea, we dove into the wonderful world of cast-ons, knits and purls, as tickled strangers smiled at the cute couple crafting dishcloths together.
Fast forward to the next morning, when I wake to the sight of him knitting, most resolutely ignoring the call of Starbucks, Reddit, and sleeping in.
Our whirlwind romance (with yarn) had officially begun.
We both love biking, so we biked to a gorgeous park, and knit there.
We both love parks, so we would often stroll to the local park, and knit there in the evenings.
We both love traveling, so we went to Switzerland and knit there (not pictured: stunning Alps in the background).
We both love Downton Abby, and he spent an entire day recovering from Switzerland jet lag doing exactly this:
Not only is it wonderful having a knit buddy, but it is great knowing he understands that when the knitting craze hits, I just have to spend a whole weekend knitting my latest baby cardigan. There is no judgment – only understanding – from him about the hours I spend dreaming about, collecting, and petting my yarn stash.
His project queue includes: the Hue Shift Afghan, learning to knit socks, and a Chroma hat. I couldn’t be more delighted!
