To celebrate our new book Helping Hands: Made With Love, Given With Heart we’ll be doing a podcast about crafting for charity! Have you ever made anything for a campaign? What made you do it, and how did it impact others? If you’ve got a good story, and would like to be part of an upcoming Knit Picks podcast, email podcast@knitpicks.com. If your story is chosen, you’ll receive a “charm pack” of our favorite Knit Picks yarn. We’d love to hear from you!

Hi,
this is a very nice post and I feel obliged to comment as it is so actual.
A lot of Nepalese children lost their relatives, their homes and all of their belongings because of the earthquakes in April and May 2015.
The aid organizations will be able to provide cloths like jackets and pants. But accessories are not easy to bring in by these agencies as they are not considered necessary by the customs office 🙁
My facebook group “lieb & reizend” for yarnlovers knits and chrochets for these children in Nepal. We are knitting hats, scarves, gloves, socks and blankets to get them to Nepal before winter.
During only 2 weeks a new facebook group „Spendenarbeiten für die Kinder in Nepal” with more than 700 members was founded to share all news and progress, share yarns (to girls cannot afford to buy yarn but want to help), give recommendation of sizes and patterns. A cargo lift/container in a plane was organized and the way to spread these sets in Nepal, also the customs declaration process.
It is breathtaking how strong a community can get for the one reason: 87 years old ladies recommend how to knit socks more efficient, the local mail man (everybody nows him now) bringing all the packages to the collection point will get socks as thank you – there is only good attitude and this feels really awesome. As the Admin of “lieb & reizend” I have installed a collection point in my town, where the knitting girls can drop of their finished pieces to save costs and have a collective shipping. We are expecting more than 4,000 complete sets of socks, hats, scarves and gloves before the End of July.
I hope that there are more activities like this one and I would love to read from them.
regards from Cologne/Germany
