March News: Colorblock Knits & Speckly Bits

Spring appears to have sprung and we are HERE for it! Bring on the cool cotton knits, playful colors, and overall feeling of lightness and brighter days to come.

Vertex: Colorblock Projects

All knitters love color, right? Whether you’re a fan of wooly neutrals, cool ocean blues & greens, romantic reds & purples, or vibrant yellows & oranges, Vertex: Colorblock Projects offers the perfect patterns to use with your ideal palettes! This collection of eleven garments and accessories offers alternative color diagrams and color-it-yourself pages to see looks beyond the samples. While most of the designs use Intarsia, many of them would be excellent simple introductions to the technique. A couple of the patterns avoid it altogether, using modular methods to create the blocks of color. With a variety of projects in different weights and fiber types, as well as an inclusive garment size range, every knitter is sure to find some new favorites!

New Yarns

Brava Speckle

Much like sprinkles on cupcakes being directly related to their yumminess factor, it’s practically been proved by science that speckles make knitting more fun. Don’t believe us? For the sake of crafty science, we suggest putting these jellybean-esque Brava Worsted skeins to the test with these delightful patterns: the Sunset Blanket (a naptime favorite), the Fancy Puppers Tie (for your four legged bestie), or the Primaveral Cowl, (you know, for you)!

Wonderfluff Ombré

Gentle gradations of heathered neutrals and soft pastels make for an ethereal-yet-cozy fiber, perfect for warding off those early spring chills. Wonderfluff Ombré is comprised of silky baby alpaca and fleecy merino fibers, blown into a lightweight tube of nylon mesh. The end result is a beautiful yarn that’s bulky and warm, yet still lofty and lightweight. Pro tip: pair with a solid shade of Wonderfluff on either end of the cake for an extra-long color change!

If you’re looking for a pattern that will make the most of these fantastically fluffy cakes, here are a few for your consideration: the incomparably adorable Mini Meow, the Wonderfluff Cowl (a crochet pattern), and the delightfully sweet Peppermint Scarf. Or, think big! Try your hand at incorporating these serenely shifting hues into larger scale projects, like the renowned Professor Meow Sweater, the Cloud Sweater, or the Emberly Cardigan.
