…through Scandinavia!
My newest collection, Northern Lights, is out – just in time for fall knitting. The six patterns in this collection were inspired by the amazing knitting traditions of Norway, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and the Faroe Islands.
The beautiful 8-pointed rose common in Norwegian designs becomes the highlight of the Aesa Pullover. With waist shaping and a standing ribbed collar, Aesa takes a nod from more modern ski wear.
Gleaning from the brightly colored embroidery and knitting patterns of Finland, the Kaata Hat & Scarf set combine traditional colors and motifs with the modern convenience of washability. The scarf is knit in the round and the hat has a deep, rollable brim, giving plenty of warmth.
Sweden’s Bohus designs get a flashy makeover in the Tuva Pullover. Using a bright rainbow of Palette with Aloft every few rows gives the yoke a brilliant halo. Tuva is fitted and worked bottom-up, so you get to save the best part – the yoke – for last!
Though Iceland’s brilliant lopapeysa offer very little room for improvement, the use of beautiful Andes del Campo gives the Baldrun Pullover a decidedly rustic flair. Baldrun works up quickly at a large gauge, and the shaped nekline and half-zip front ensure a great fit.
The Edele Cardigan lets texture speak for itself in this Danish-inpired knit. With knit-in pockets and boyfriend shaping, Edele pairs the best of modern comfort with a traditional knit-and-purl motif.
No tour of Scandinavia would be complete without a stop in the Faroe Islands, where the Marna Pullover gets its inpiration. A simple, 2-color floral motif is the star of the show, while a wide scoop neckline and reverse-colored sleeves add modern appeal to the traditional raglan design.
All of the garments in this book are sized for a 32-64″ bust, and are available separately or as an eBook download. The printed book will be arriving shortly – a perfect addition to your library, and a great gift for the other knitwear lovers in your life.
Where will you start your tour? I think it’s off to Norway for me – there might just be an Aesa pullover in my future! If knitting it is as fun as writing it was, this is going to be a fun trip. Grab your needles and let’s go!
