I love non traditional holidays. Even if they are celebrating things that I do all of the time. But it’s fun to make pie on Pi Day (3/14), watch the Star Wars movies on May the Fourth (be with you), and I definitely celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day! Most of my friends are knitters (or become knitters after we become friends), so I’m always knitting on a project if I have a spare moment. But my friend Lee and I decided to go to a coffee shop and knit in public–on purpose!
We took pictures of each other while we were knitting. The blurry hands and needles make it look like we were knitting super fast!
I’m using Deep Water Shadow Tonal to knit the Aeolian shawl from Knitty. I’m so close to being done! Lee is using Jacquard City Tweed HW to knit a top secret IDP pattern that she’s going to release soon.
I think our outfits speak to the type of “summer” weather we’ve been having in Portland. I’m wearing a wool sweater and coat today, and it’s the middle of June! On the bright side, my wool hand knits get a lot of use.
Is there going to be a World Wide Knit in Public Day event in your area? Or are you going to make your own event? Tell me about it!
