Chill Zone: 4th of July Edition

Knit Picks Stroll Yarns and watermelon

Holidays means different things to different people. The 4th of July being no exception to this rule, this particular holiday has always been about keeping things as low-key as possible for me. This year my family of three will be venturing west into the Columbia Gorge to spend a night at the Skamania Lodge, far from the festivities where we will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery sans fireworks.

Our destination is about 45 minutes west of the Portland metro area, where we live. Full of breathtaking views of the impressive Columbia River and massive Doug Firs, every minute of the drive is gorge-ous (see what I did there?)

Pit stop: the Pendleton Mill Store in Washougal (I will be buying fabric for some future gifting plans. Pillows anyone?)

Daytime plans: a family hike at Beacon Rock

Mid-day food eating plans: the Acadian Pizza & a Gifford Pinchot Pilsner from Backwoods Brewing Co.

Afternoon shenanigans: splashin’ round the pool

Evening activities: star gazing and s’more making around the communal fire pit

Projects to work on in the car (and poolside/fireside) : the Defroster Leg Warmers. My plan is to make a few matching pairs, both for my daughter and niece, using Stroll Glimmer. Midnight Heather & Blush are the colors I’ll be using, each held double, to achieve the same gauge used in the original pattern (Andean Treasure was the original yarn used). At some point (maybe by the end of summer) I’ll get around to making myself a pair in Dove Heather Stroll Tweed. Just gotta pry the yarn away from Cathy first, my feline assistant.

Regardless of how you spend the holiday, I hope it is relaxing and full of fun. Have a happy and safe 4th everyone!
