When we came up with an idea of doing a crochet afghan book, my thoughts immediately went to my late grandmother, who made so many snuggly blankets over the years. Nearly every year, I received one - each one different but beautifully done. So when I thought about what I wanted to do for my pattern, I remembered how she loved doing all types of granny squares and piecing them together. I grabbed some Wool of the Andes Superwash and played around with my hook - in the end, I came up with my Efflorescence Throw. |

The weather has definitely taken a SHARP turn towards dark and windy winter this past week and I've pulled out all of my favorite worsted weight short sleeve sweaters as armor during my mad dashes from house to car. I love the medium weight fabric of worsted wool but I hate smothering in all of those cozy layers whenever I duck into a steamy coffee house so I usually opt for short sleeves in my heavier sweaters. So practical and so much faster to knit! My newest sweater is a shortened version of Clare Lee's free Brick sweater sweater from Ravelry in Wool of the Andes Tweed Down Heather. This pattern is a great basic sweater shape with raglan sleeves that's easy to customize with little duplicate stitch motifs and changing the length of the sleeves and body to suit your mood (and the weather). |

One of the things I love about our new pattern collection, Northwoods (and there are so many things), is how sophisticated and polished all the project are, while still being down-to-earth. They're all just so wearable, you know? And the cable stitches add a lot of interest without being overwhelming to knit. Today, I'm highlighting a couple of my favorite patterns from the collection, with some exclusive images from the photo shoot that I couldn't fit into the book. |

The idea for Tucked In, a collection of crochet afghans designed by everyone here at the office had me reaching for four of my favorite Wool of the Andes Superwash colors and immediately crocheting up a storm of test swatches before we even finished outlining the concept! After the first hour, I knew I wanted to do a mixture of granny squares and granny stripes, all that was left to do was to work out how Brass Heather, White, Clarity and Cadet would work together throughout what would become the Squares + Stripes Blanket. |

I always try to keep a small project on my hooks or needles as a sort of crafty "palate cleanser" while I'm working on intense, long-term projects. I've noticed that it helps to keep me motivated and excited about those big pieces if I can take a mini break and finish something else quickly. My newest favorite mini knit is Purl Soho's free Garter Flap Hat (teeny tiny baby sized). |

Well, the autumnal equinox was last week and I could feel its effects right away. It was like the earth just decided to skip any transitional weather and cut to the chase. But that's ok with me, because I love fall! I'm ready for snuggling under layers of blankets, resting on a cloud of lovely pillows, and putting down rugs to warm my feet from the hardwood floors in my apartment. Luckily our newest pattern collection, Creature Comforts, is all about warmth and coziness. |
