In case you missed it, the latest installment of our 52 Weeks of Dishcloths is the Petticoat Dishcloth pattern! This fun and free knitting pattern features ruffles to create layers of texture - perfect for scrubbing and cleaning. And because it is a layered design, it's perfect for using up odds and ends of sport or DK weight yarns. The Petticoat Dishcloth |

Marjorie Dussaud has created this week's handsome free dishcloth pattern: the Bicolor Tweed Dishcloth. I'm smitten with this combination of stripes and textured slip stitches, perfect for rugged session of dish-duty! Dussaud notes that this pattern is great for beginners because it's an easy stitch repeat for a big effect. I have this particular pattern ear-marked as a quick stash busting project, ideal for featuring striped sections of yarn from previous projects! |

We are officially a quarter of the way through our 52 Weeks of Dishcloths program! Have you been following along this year for 2015? We are so excited to have some of our favorite independent designers create these fun freebie patterns for us. This week's free pattern, Granny's Rainbow Dishcloth, comes from designer Beth Major - she designed a classic granny square with a colorful rainbow twist that works up quickly and is great for using up those yarn odds and ends. It's also a great pattern if you are new crochet and want some instant gratification. |

We've had such fun in our blog series "Dishcloth Remix", where we've re-purposed our popular 2014 dishcloths, available in our book 52 Weeks of Dishcloths: A Knit Picks Kitchen Spectacular. We've made a coaster and trivet set, a rug, a pencil or accessories bag, and a bread cloth. In our final installment in the series, we turned Emily's Some Pig and Bear With Me dishcloths into an adorable shoulder bag perfect for your wallet and keys, or your crafting projects! To make the bag, we knit up the Pig Dishcloth |

Take a mid-week break and rest your eyes upon the glorious, new Log Cabin Dishcloth (free pattern, available here) by Faith Schmidt! I fell in love with this pattern the minute I got my hands on the knit sample for this photo. |

Move over, bleach and ammonia - a new cleaning superhero is in town! May I introduce essential oils, nature's affordable, eco-friendly, and just as effective (if not more) alternative to store bought cleaners. For the last year, we've been featuring a free dishcloth pattern every week, so I thought it would be fun to explore natural cleaners to use with your dishcloths. Not only are conventional cleaners expensive, they can also be hazardous to your health and the environment. Using essential oils to create your own cleaning spray is safe for your family's health and phenomenal at eradicating salmonella, e.coli, MRSA, pneumonia and a slew of other insidious little nasties (source). This spray is perfect for cleaning hard surfaces in the kitchen, bathroom, etc. Let's get started! |

Welcome, once again, to"Dishcloth Remix", where we've been looking at ways to re-purpose our popular 2014 dishcloth patterns in new ways just by changing up a few things to the original patterns. The dishcloth patterns will always be free on our site, but you can also buy a compilation of them in our new book, 52 Weeks of Dishcloths: A Knit Picks Kitchen Spectacular. It's also available as an e-book! Sometimes it's nice to have everything in one place, you know? Last week we used my Emerald City Dishcloth pattern to make a Yellow Brick Road Rug, and the week previous, we made a trivet and coaster set with Stacey's Orbital Dishcloth pattern. This week, we've taken Hannah's A Chance of Rain Crochet dishcloth and made it into a fun and functional pencil case. The pattern is no harder than the one for the dishcloth, and you can download it HERE, for free! In case you're nervous about installing a zipper into the pencil case, we've taken some how-to photos to help you professionally finish off your project. |

To celebrate the release of our 2014 dishcloth collection 52 Weeks of Dishcloths: A Knit Picks Kitchen Spectacular, we're taking some favorite dishcloth patterns of 2014 and re-purposing them into objects you'll love to own. Our Dishcloth Remix blog series offers you "pithy directions" (as Elizabeth Zimmerman would say) to help you make fun and whimsical objects out of the stitch patterns in this amazing book. Last week, we featured Stacey's Orbital Dishcloth, which became a trivet and coaster set. This week, my very own Emerald City Dishcloth was up-sized to make a Yellow Brick Road Rug, an adorable accent to any room in your home. |
