Remember my plans for knitting the Treefort Jacket for a friend? Well, it turns out that the baby she thought was a girl is actually going to be a boy. Rachael and I have decided to blame her husband since it is his co-worker who is having the baby and he has not been good about communicating vital information. Including the baby shower invitation that Rachel saw sitting in his car when they headed for the beach the MORNING OF THE SHOWER! It had been in the car for quite awhile.
Rachael called me immediately to let me know about the gender change. It’s a good thing we weren’t planning on having the gift ready until after the baby is born. The hitch is that I don’t have much in the way of “boy” colored yarn. Or, neutrals, for that matter. What I do have in boy colors comes in fingering weight yarn.
I have had the Woobies by Kris Carlson in my Ravelry Queue for ages. Yes, her patterns call for sport weight yarn but I’m going to wing-it a bit with the fingering weight yarns in my stash. I will follow the pattern but use small needles like 1’s or 2’s. It is for a newborn so it should be fine if it comes out a bit small.
So, I will be casting on with Gloss in Winter Night, knit the “body” with Doe and make the spots with a light brown that I don’t think we carry anymore. And, I certainly haven’t kept the label. Did I mention that I’m digging deep into my stash to pull off this little knitting trick?
