How are you connecting your fellow crafters while staying at home? A lot of us have been missing crafting nights out or even simply hanging out with friends, and when that’s an important part of your life, it can feel pretty isolating. We’ve reached out to our friends for some advice.
For the Knit Picks staff, we’re used to seeing each other every day and to keep us going, we have a daily video call to check in with each other! It’s just lovely to see everyone’s face (and everyone’s kitties, puppies, and kiddos popping in to say hi!).
Test knitter Maeve (Instagram: maevezana) has a similar solution:
“I wanted to say that I’ve had several lovely zoom meeting “knit nights” with our far-flung knitting group – we all usually see each other in person at Rhinebeck, and otherwise here and there as travel plans allow. It’s been a lovely way to stay connected – and since we’re all (mostly) far away from each other normally, it is lovely to all be together on the video chat.”

“Crafting is a great way to spread inspiration and creativity, as well as make new friends. I have connected with so many fellow knitters and crocheters from all over the world through sharing my projects on my blog and social media, as well as by joining online communities. I would recommend starting with Facebook groups to share and find inspiration, as well as ask questions or find solutions to a current challenge you are facing with your craft. Most cities and towns even have local Facebook groups that you can join if you are looking for in person [or virtual!] meetups.”

“Spend some of your extra time reconnecting with makers and accounts that you love. Comment on their photos, share them in your stories, and mention them in your posts. You may help others find new accounts to follow.”
