We know this post is called “July News,” but it’s almost August, which means it’s basically September … and gosh, that means it’s pretty much time for the holidays, isn’t it?! (So many handcrafted gifts to plan. So. Many. Gifts.)
But before we get TOO far ahead of ourselves, let’s back it up to the end of July: we have so much great news for you. We’re continuing to update colorways in all of our favorite yarns, and for this go-around we’re so excited to bring you new vibrant colors in both our Shimmer and Galileo yarn lines.
Beyond that, we have 10 (yes, 10!) speckle-tastic sock lab colors for you (this time on our Stroll sock yarn base), 2 new pattern collections, and 5 free patterns for you to check out. Oh, and did we mention we’re having a needle sale? read on to learn more.
New Shimmer Colors
Shimmer, our lace weight 70% Baby Alpaca, 30% Silk blend is back in nine bold, beautiful colors. We love the vibrancy of this updated line, and we can’t wait to see all the gorgeous projects you create with it. (For inspiration, check out the Fishtail Lace Scarf pattern below!)
Spectacular Speckles! Stroll Sock Lab
We went BIG this time in the sock lab, creating not two, not five, but TEN cheerful and coordinating colorways featuring speckles, speckles, and more speckles. Pair up the light and saturated version of these hues for a color-coordinated duo, combine various shades of light speckles to create a creamy base fabric with sunny flecks of color, or go full-on brilliant with gorgeously saturated hues, featuring super-dramatic color pops.
New Galileo Colors
Galileo is a luxury sport weight yarn that combines the lush softness of Merino wool with the brilliant luster and strength of bamboo. We’ve added six new colors to this gorgeous line (we like to say the colors shimmer like the stars!), and this 50% Merino Wool, 50% Viscose from Bamboo blend is perfect for lightweight cardigans, elegant tops, and stunning wraps.
New Pattern Collection: Simply Socks
Whether you prefer single colors or pops of contrasting hues, stockinette or textured stitches, true solids or tweeds & kettle dye effects, there’s something for every sock knitter’s drawer in Simply Socks: A Collection of Wardrobe Basics. You’ll find plenty of stripes and contrasting heels and toes, lots of simple allover patterns, and even a few cable twists and easy colorwork designs. Varying in knitting complexity, the 18 patterns included in this collection will be perfect to throw on with office garb or a pair of jeans, making them a cozy addition to any knitter’s daily outfits.
New Pattern Collection: Everyday Rustic
Wraps, hats, mittens, and a whole lot of sweaters fill the pages of Everyday Rustic: A Textured Tweed Collection, all in gorgeous, speckly, cozy tweed. Bundle up in wooly pullovers, throw on a vest or cardigan as the perfect transitional layer, or keep your fingers warm in classic cabled mittens. You’ll find all kinds of textures that pair well with tweedy yarns, from complex cables and twists to very simple knit/purl patterns, something for all tweed tastes.
FREE PATTERN – Karina Shawlette
Knit in Capra (our DK weight, 85% Merino Wool, 15% Cashmere blend), the Karenia Shawlette by Joyce Fassbender is a winged triangular shawl with a garter stitch border that is knit from center back to the bottom edge. Yarn overs at each end and along the center stitch are used to form the triangle shape.
FREE PATTERN – Fishtail Lace Scarf
Knit in the new Shimmer colorway Lobelia, the Fishtail Lace Scarf is inspired by all things aquatic. The chevron lace design resembles a flipping fish tail, undulating ocean waves, or the scales on your favorite underwater swimmers. The simple pattern is written out, not charted, and it is easy enough for a beginning lace knitter to master in no time.
FREE PATTERN – Melodeon Hat
Knit in Muse Hand Painted, our 100% Superwash Merino Wool worsted weight yarn, Melodeon is a simple, textured hat worked in the round that uses just knit and purl stitches to create a fun pleated-looking stitch pattern, almost like according folds. This is perfect for giving the shape some slouchy structure!
FREE PATTERN – Prospects Cowl & Shawlette
Another pattern knit in our gorgeous Muse Hand Painted yarn, the Prospects Cowl & Shawlette designed by Joyce Fassbender includes instructions for both a cowl and shawl. The cowl is worked flat from the center back and then joined and worked in the round until reaching the bottom edge. The shawlette is worked flat from the center back to the bottom edge. Why not make them both?
FREE PATTERN – Stripy Spheres
Our latest free pattern featuring our Brava Mini Packs, these cute Stripy Spheres designed by Emily Kintigh are easily customizable! They’re a fun way to play with colors, and the small amount of yarn required makes them great for our mini packs or for stash busting. The spheres are worked in the round and stuffed before finishing. Directions are given for versions with three, two, one, and no stripes!
