Staff Projects – Accessories + Ornament Edition!

The weather is turning chilly, the evenings are darker, and the needles around Knit Picks sure have been busy! Check out some of the staff projects we’ve been working on. They’re accessories that knit up quickly and might be perfect for your upcoming gift list!

I’ve been working on a collection of hats for the teachers at my daughters’ daycare. I call it “The Preciosa Project” because I’m using out single ply squishy soft merino yarn, Preciosa. Since the teachers move rooms daily and work with different ages on different days, my girls have 12 teachers total. I might not be able to make each of them a different color hat, but it sure will be fun to see them wearing their hats after the holidays are over. I’m using the Classic Cuffed Hat pattern from Purl Soho. The medium size, actually listed for a child, is perfect for an adult if you use a bigger size 8, 5mm needle with Preciosa. I’m using a 16 inch circular from our Shortie Needle Set, and the hats are flying off my needle! Do you think I can do twelve of them, by Christmas?

Hannah has been working on some adorable ornaments. She used the Mitten Garland Advent Calendar pattern (this is mitten #1) and used Palette yarn in Hollyberry and White, to create this mini mitt for the tree. She reports that it was so much fun, she can’t wait to make the others in the pattern!

She’s also made these crocheted donuts (Ravelry link). Made in Swish DK in White, Nutmeg, and Carnation, they’ve been an amazing stashbuster with such an yummy result! Don’t you know a donut lover that is sure to love this ornament for their tree?

Hannah has also made a Christmas hat for her niece Ella in Preciosa colorway Gladiola and Swish Worsted in Jade. The pattern in Bippity Bobbity (Ravelry link). It’s free, and Hannah reports it’s a great easy pattern with clever shaping, that fits and frames the face well. Could you ask for more?

Stacey made some great hats in Mighty Stitch. If you’re in need of a fiber that’s really hard wearing and easy to care for, Mighty Stitch to the rescue! The pattern is from Stacey’s Go, Fight, Win! pattern. Why not download it for free, and make a matching blanket, too? The one on the left (colorways Celestial and Alfalfa) Stacey made for herself (she’s a Seahawks fan) and the one on the right (Serrano and Black) is for her nephew, in his school colors. How adorable!

Stacey also made this scarf. It’s a Crackerjack Scarf (Ravelry link), meaning she followed the win/loss record of a certain baseball team (in this case the Seattle Mariners) to achieve a really unique stripe pattern! You can find more information on the process right here. It’s made of Preciosa in Bare, Crest, Blue Skies, Stormy, Panther, and Canary. Gorgeous, and so soft!

Have you officially entered the cold-weather knitting season with any accessory or ornament knitting of your own? If you love a pattern, leave the name in the comments. We’re always looking for a good one! In the meantime, happy knitting, no matter what you’re making!

    Hi Carina!
We will be featuring that project in an upcoming staff project blog post. Alison didn’t use a pattern, but there’s a cute one on Ravelry if you search, “Quick & Easy Cacti”. Hope that helps!

Hey Knit Picks! I love all of these projects! On the mobile version, I see a cactus picture on the front of the post, but there’s no cactus project. Just wondering if to was a mistake or something. I’ve been looking for a cactus pattern recently.
