I found two delightful, bright braids of roving at this year’s Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival from the Wool Gatherings booth. The minute I saw their bright colors, I knew I wanted to try weaving some scarves with it.

I’ve been having trouble spinning those bulky, lofty yarns that I admire so often and this roving is so soft and pretty that I don’t even want to try spinning it. Instead, I’m going to try to run shots of roving across a warp of white Palette. I tried something similar a year ago to get a slubby, warm woven fabric. I loved the results and have been waiting for the perfect roving to come along before trying it again. This time I want it to look like I used bulky yarn without all the effort of spinning… aka more even and I’ll leave out the cotton weft threads I carried along with the roving last time.

I love how the roving puffs between the warp threads.

I haven’t started my little project yet. I think I’ll wait for a nice, rainy day to sit down with some homemade chai and start planning out yardage and the more fiddly parts of the whole process. In the mean time, I’ll content myself with gazing at the beautiful colors and imagining what the final result with look like!
