In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve come up with a bunch of links for you to create your very own “Celtic Chill Zone” – a place to knit fancy cables, sip a delicious beverage, and listen to the sounds of waves upon a rocky shore (or U2, whichever you prefer). DIY All Purpose Cleaner

Move over, bleach and ammonia – a new cleaning superhero is in town! May I introduce essential oils, nature’s affordable, eco-friendly, and just as effective (if not more) alternative to store bought cleaners.

For the last year, we’ve been featuring a free dishcloth pattern every week, so I thought it would be fun to explore natural cleaners to use with your dishcloths. Not only are conventional cleaners expensive, they can also be hazardous to your health and the environment. Using essential oils to create your own cleaning spray is safe for your family’s health and phenomenal at eradicating salmonella, e.coli, MRSA, pneumonia and a slew of other insidious little nasties (source). This spray is perfect for cleaning hard surfaces in the kitchen, bathroom, etc.

Let’s get started!

Dishcloth Remix: Cloud Case

Welcome, once again, to”Dishcloth Remix”, where we’ve been looking at ways to re-purpose our popular 2014 dishcloth patterns in new ways just by changing up a few things to the original patterns. The dishcloth patterns will always be free on our site, but you can also buy a compilation of them in our new book, 52 Weeks of Dishcloths: A Knit Picks Kitchen Spectacular. It’s also available as an e-book! Sometimes it’s nice to have everything in one place, you know?

Last week we used my Emerald City Dishcloth pattern to make a Yellow Brick Road Rug, and the week previous, we made a trivet and coaster set with Stacey’s Orbital Dishcloth pattern. This week, we’ve taken Hannah’s A Chance of Rain Crochet dishcloth and made it into a fun and functional pencil case. The pattern is no harder than the one for the dishcloth, and you can download it HERE, for free!

In case you’re nervous about installing a zipper into the pencil case, we’ve taken some how-to photos to help you professionally finish off your project.

Cutest Sheep EVER!

A little debate popped up at the office today while I was paging through our coveted copy of the Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook over exactly which breed of sheep is the absolute cutest! There are handsome sheep, noble breeds and strange shapes but the hardest to choose is which breed makes us utter a collective “Aaaaawwwwww!” Cast your vote below for either the Kerry Hill sheep or the Valais Blackface if you can handle looking at this much cuteness in one place!
